Last year, Paris hosted the final Major of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive - the BLAST.tv Paris Major. This month, Copenhagen will host the first Major of Counter-Strike 2 - the PGL Copenhagen Major.
With the RMRs for the Copenhagen Major now concluded, we now know all the teams that will be battling it out in Denmark's capital for the chance to write their name into Counter-Strike history forever.
RMRs always bring heartbreak and jubilation, and this Major cycle's events were no different.
So, let's look at the teams that made it and who didn't.
Some notable teams will miss the Major from Europe, many of which have already announced roster changes.
NIP faced bitter disappointment as they were eliminated with a 0-3 record and since then have announced the benching of a trio of their stars.
The next team to fail in their mission to qualify for the first CS2 Major was Falcons. In European RMR A they lost to FaZe, Eternal Fire, and AMKAL, and as a result, Snappi and Magisk will be missing a Major in their home country. Changes also beckon for Falcons because of this result, they will be playing BLAST Premier Spring Showdown with s1mple following the benching of BOROS.
Despite both of these teams missing the Major, no team will be as disappointed to miss out as Astralis - especially given the fact they were given two chances thanks to the Last Chance Qualifier.
Failure to qualify for Astralis has also led to huge changes for the storied Danish organisation, blameF has since been replaced by former Monte player br0 and device has taken over the role of in-game leader.
It isn't all doom and gloom for Denmark, however, young team ECSTATIC booked their place at the Major with wins over Monte, OG, and Guild Eagles.
There was also jubilation for SAW, who joined ECSTATIC in qualifying for their first-ever Major following victories over NIP, Enterprise, and fnatic.
Other notable teams to miss out include fnatic, GamerLegion, OG, BetBoom, and Monte.
This is the full list of teams who have qualified for the PGL Copenhagen Major from Europe:
The heartbreaks continued in the Americas RMR as Team Liquid fell on the final day to Complexity. A harsh result of a match-up made by Valve's seeding, at least it will be bound to create a fierce rivalry between NA's two most prominent teams.
M80 will also be bitterly disappointed. Despite playing with their coach, they fell at the final hurdle to Legacy in a 2-1 defeat.
However, Counter-Strike fans all over will rejoice as legend of the game coldzera booked his place alongside the rest of his Legacy team.
Other big names to miss out in the Americas RMR include Nouns, MIBR, and NRG.
The full list of teams to qualify for the PGL Copenhagen Major from the Americas is as follows:
The final RMR region to see teams qualify for the PGL Copenhagen Major is Asia.
Already we are seeing huge ramifications for failure to qualify for the event as legendary Australian organisation Grayhound has announced they will be leaving CS as a result of their failure to make it to the first CS2 Major.
Although in previous Majors teams have qualified for the Elimination Stage (formerly the Legends Stage) of the Major based on RMR results, PGL Copenhagen will be different as it is done based on Valve's regional standings instead.
This means that despite the fact that FURIA and Imperial qualified for the Major with a 3-0 record in the Americas RMR, it is Complexity who will be granted the spot in the Elimination Stage instead.
With that said, the teams who will be beginning their Major campaign in the Opening stage have also been given their first matches.
Spicy matches include an Iberian derby between KOI and SAW and a Brazilian derby between FURIA and Legacy that will see FalleN take on coldzera.
The matches are as follows:
BLAST ApS., Hauser Plads 1, 3., 1127 Copenhagen
