Ever since it was posted at the end of Season 0, I’ve been investigating the official Marvel Rivals “Hero Hot List”. The statistical differences between ranks has always fascinated me in competitive games, and Rivals is no exception here.
With the exception of Luna Snow and Mantis, nearly every hero has a considerably different pick rate depending on which rank you search in. Yet no one has a bigger pick rate differential between Grandmaster+ and Bronze than Namor.
Is the King of The Seas Marvel Rivals’ Hidden OP?
Rated as a two-star difficulty hero in Marvel Rivals, Namor isn’t too hard to play. His low pick rate isn’t a matter of complexity, but likely caused by his unconventional kit. He is a projectile hero who heavily depends on his Monstro Spawns to maximize DPS.
These Monstros are essentially octopi turrets which automatically shoot enemies in direct line of sight. Namor can have two of these spawned simultaneously, and he can also control who they’re shooting at if he hits them with his main Normal Attack, or his Right Click, Wrath of the Seven Seas, which also buffs his turrets.
Namor’s kit is unintuitive to play at first, and rewards good map knowledge. Experienced players will be familiar enough with all maps to figure out the best positions to place Monstros at, but people just trying him out might feel that he lacks something.
He isn’t flashy like most melee characters, he doesn’t have an ultimate that single-handedly melts people like Hela, Punisher, or Iron Man do. All these factors likely contribute to his below average pick rate, which gets progressively worse in lower ranks.
On the other hand, his pick rate gets better the higher ranked you get. Let’s break down the numbers.
From Bronze to Grandmaster+ Namor climbs from a 3.07% pick rate to 10.39%. A 7.32% increase only costs 2.81% win rate, which is truly impressive.
These stats are all taken from Marvel Rivals’ official Hero Hot List, which was updated on the 6th of January 2025. Given the QOL buffs to Namor and the direct buffs he got through his Team Up ability with Luna Snow, his Pick Rate might be even higher now.
As the meta starts solidifying with the game progressing through Season 1, and with how high Luna Snow’s pick and win rates are, we expect Namor to quickly shoot upwards to become one of the most popular Duelists in the game, throughout all ranks.
