Although it is the eight entry in a franchise that is quickly approaching its 30th anniversary, Anno 117 is quite beginner friendly. The campaign teaches you the ropes well and in a relatively short amount of time. The endless mode is packed full of tutorials.
What the game does not teach you about are map seeds, which are one of the most crucial details to learn. Whether you are a beginner looking for a smooth experience or a long time veteran ready to min-max your way through ancient Rome, here is Anno 117's best seed, why it is so good, and what to look for in your own seeds.

He covers a perfect start to a city in this video, in which he shows what makes this an ideal map seed for Anno 117.
9670 is a nigh-on perfect seed for multiple reasons. Islands are quite close together, they have a great variety of fertilities and, crucially, most of them are relatively flat with a minimal amount of rocks. This makes it so much easier to build a big city that you will never want to go back to a rocky island again.
If you want to have a map identical to the one Taka showed on his video, though, the seed isn't the only thing to keep in mind. You'll also have to copy his Game World settings, which are:
Note that you can copy these settings and change only the layout from Island Chain to, for example, Archipelago, and you'll get a vastly different experience with some similar islands.

If that is the case, consider tinkering with your Game Balance and Game Start settings for a more challenging experience.
Another way to make the game harder is also to start off with an Albion province instead of a Latium one, but we would not recommend that for a beginner. Islands will have a much smaller area of usable space, with a considerable amount being taken up by Marshes and huge rocks.
But what if you get tired of this seed or want to try looking for one of your own?
Image via Ubisoft, screenshot captured by Blast. There are a few things to keep in mind when looking for great map seeds in Anno 117. Most of it will come down to luck, of course. There are a ton of possible seeds in the game and the only way to find one you like (besides searching online) is through trial and error.
But what makes a good seed?
You'll want to have at least one large island with a healthy area of flat land, allowing you to construct your imperial capital. Around your main island you should ideally have access to nearby islands which have fertilities which your main one doesn't.
If you're looking for perfection, those islands should reflect at least a couple of fertilities that one deity will boost. For example:
An ideal map seed has islands that fit well into each deity's boost, allowing you to have islands specializing in different areas of production. Just remember, if finding something like this sounds like too much work and you just want to get started smoothly, just go with map 9670, Anno 117's best seed.
