Day 3 of the PGL Wallachia Playoffs brings heartbreak to favourites as underdogs claim shocking victories.
The underdogs have sent shockwaves through the scene as fans ponder over the untimely exit of their favourite Dota 2 teams.
Let’s dive right into the action.
The biggest shocker of the day was Team Liquid’s humiliating defeat against G2xIG in the lower bracket.
The loss led to the Western European Dota 2 team’s untimely exit from PGL Wallachia Playoffs Season 1, just as they were starting to find their groove.
One of the best Dota 2 teams in the world getting outclassed by the underdogs certainly has a nice ring. There were moments when it seemed the games were in TL’s grasp, however, G2xIG left no stone unturned to turn around their fortunes.
One thing to be happy about is that Gaimin Gladiators is no longer the only team waiting at the airport as Team Liquid will join them soon - two fallen Western European giants embracing each other in a warm and consoling hug…
Jokes aside, fans have a reason to rejoice.
Both teams, after a disastrous start to their 2024 Dota 2 esports campaign, are starting to find their rhythm. The future looks hopeful, with DreamLeague Season 23 and Dota 2 Riyadh Masters 2024 soon approaching.
Boom Esports was pitted against the mighty Team Spirit in the second elimination series of the day. Boom Esports was coming in hot after securing an incredible victory over Gaimin Gladiators yesterday which saw the latter get eliminated from the tournament.
Many Dota 2 esports fans expected the South Americans to cause another upset, this time against Team Spirit, or at least put up a good fight. Alas, Team Spirit was having none of it and didn’t give Boom Esports any room to breathe, let alone fight, punching the latter’s tickets to the nearest airport.
Xtreme Gaming (XG) has gone undefeated throughout the PGL Wallachia Season 1, not losing a single game against any opponent they faced. They sent Team Falcons, the tournament favourites, to the lower bracket finals in a clean 2:0 whitewash.
XG had every answer in the book to the Falcons’ strategies, while the latter seemed like a lost cause, scratching their heads and scrambling to find answers but to no avail. XG sit atop the mountain, looking unbeatable, and gladly awaits their next prey, this time in the grand finals.
At this rate, XG looks poised to win the whole tournament with no respite in sight for teams facing them. Granted that Falcons are playing with a stand-in but it still doesn’t negate how fearlessly XG are playing with a near-impeccable understanding of the current patch.
Team Spirit faced G2xIG on the penultimate day of the tournament with both teams fighting tooth and nail to secure a spot in the lower bracket finals.
TS defeated G2xIG in straight games with ease, leaving the latter with no answers in sight.
They were aggressive, clinical and disciplined with Yataro popping off and being a nightmare to be dealt with. They now face Team Falcons in the lower bracket finals. The winner goes to the grand finals where Xtreme Gaming patiently awaits their opponent.
Can TS defeat Falcons and seek revenge on Xtreme Gaming? Can Falcons overcome the TI champs, punch their tickets to the grand finals and lift yet another trophy? Will Xtreme Gaming remain unbeaten and secure their second Dota 2 trophy this year?
