Day 2 of the PGL Wallachia Playoffs has been a rollercoaster. Dominant displays, shocking upsets and enough clutch play to keep us enticed. Let’s not forget the excruciating heartbreaks, though.
Let’s begin, shall we?
Day 2 of the PGL Wallachia Playoffs saw established powerhouses crumble under pressure, leaving their crowns scattered on the battlefield. Day 2 hasn’t been kind to some big names as they faced some serious challenges, with a few teams getting eliminated, unlike Day 1 when there were no eliminations.
The most surprising exit was that of Gaimin Gladiators (GG) at the hands of the underdog's Boom Esports. After being defeated by Team Liquid (TL) a day earlier, GG was poised to win against the South American boys in the lower bracket. However, a surprise shocker from Boom, based on impeccable and aggressive plays, humbled the Western European giants.
Team Spirit (TS) is the second titan to fall but they still have a chance at redemption in the lower bracket. They were outclassed by Xtreme Gaming (XG) in a whitewash with a 2:0 score with no answer in sight to XG’s masterclass.
Team Falcons vs. Team Liquid was a full three-game adventure that saw some nerve-wracking displays of excellence by both the European Dota 2 teams, thus also showing a glimpse of incredible Dota yet to come in the remaining days.
Team Liquid is back, or at least that’s what the Dota 2 casters thought after the first game at Day 2 of the PGL Wallachia Playoffs ended in TL’s favour. That game showed a glimpse of the old TL who always used to cruise seamlessly in tournaments.
However, being the tournament favourites, Team Falcons mounted an excellent comeback to win the next two games and close the series. They are the favourites to win PGL Wallachia Season 1 for a reason.
Day 2 wasn't just about the established powerhouses. Several lesser-known teams came out swinging, taking down giants and rewriting the narrative. Point in case Boom Esports – they defeated GG in straight games to clinch the series and fight to live another day.
Can Boom maintain the momentum, or will the pressure cook them like a boiling stew? Meanwhile, GG must be on their way to the nearest airport…to catch the next flight out of their misery.
SEA-rious business: Another early exit for the region
SEA continues to disappoint as the lone representative Aurora falls to the Chinese-led European coalition G2xIG. Aurora lost with a score of 1:2, at least giving G2xIG a run for their money. However, is that enough for SEA to rise and shine? Not!
Change is the need of the hour, and there’s no better time than now for SEA teams to shake things up and aim for excellence.
Nonetheless, just because Aurora lost doesn’t mean G2xIG was better. The latter has been struggling since its inception and doesn’t seem to have the potential to go all the way, despite being strong on paper.
Dota 2 esports is at its best with the world’s best Dota teams competing for the ultimate glory at PGL Wallachia Season 1.
The third day reckons as three more teams will get eliminated from the tournament today. However, we’ve prolific series of match-ups on our hands.
The battle continues with Team Spirit, Boom Esports, Team Liquid and G2xIG playing in the lower bracket. Every series is a do-or-die situation as a loss would result in direct elimination. However, we will also get our first grand finalists today. Xtreme Gaming and Team Falcons fight for a spot in the grand finals.
Don’t miss out on the action today.
