The final four teams for the BLAST Slam I semifinals are set. Parivision and Xtreme Gaming defeat Team Liquid and Gaimin Gladiators, respectively, in a day of upsets as the Europeans fail to put up a fight in the inaugural Slam tournament.
Earlier during the day Parivision pulled off an upset against the reigning TI champions Team Liquid in a clean victory. The subsequent series between Xtreme Gaming and Gaimin Gladiators was a highly anticipated East versus West battle.
Gaimin’s performance throughout the tournament was shaky. Having secured third place in the group stage and starting in the second round of the playoffs, they handed Team Falcons, one of the tournament favourites, a crushing defeat to advance to the next round, where Xtreme Gaming was waiting.
On the other hand, Xtreme Gaming placed second in the group stage with their only loss coming against BetBoom Team and advanced directly to the quarterfinal. Only a little was expected of the Chinese team fielding three new players in its roster.
The lone Chinese hope, carrying the weight of China on its shoulders, pleasantly surprised the Dota 2 fans with its exemplary gameplay, especially against Gaimin Gladiators. They defeated the European team in straight games with Lou and Xm playing flawlessly in both games.
Xtreme Gaming strategized playing around unique hero picks like Ursa and Sand King, two heroes rarely picked in BLAST Slam I, and completely outmanoeuvred Gaimin in the process. Even a cheeky Nature’s Prophet pick from Gaimin wasn’t enough to subdue or outwit the Chinese.
The semifinals for BLAST Slam I are set. Parivision and Xtreme Gaming advance to the next round to face the table toppers in the semifinals.
