It's been a long time coming but Falcons finally got their hands on a CS trophy at PGL Bucharest.
A curtain call for degster, he won the MVP award in Romania, but was replaced by m0NESY just a day later as Falcons pulled off a blockbuster move for the young AWPer.
Ahead of m0NESY's debut at IEM Melbourne, we spoke to fellow Falcons player TeSeS about the win at PGL Bucharest, the prospect of playing with the baby GOAT, and the expectations of the team now that m0NESY has joined.
Congratulations on the win at PGL Bucharest, what did it mean to win that event?
Thanks, it means so much to me, it was the last tournament with degster and he's a good friend of mine and a really good person, so I'm just happy that it ended like that.
As you said it was the last tournament with degster, rumours of his imminent departure surfaced before the event, so how did you manage to avoid the distractions and stay focused?
I think that degster showed the way for the team with how he was dealing with it, we could see that he was just as fired up as he normally is and to be able to see that as a player next to him just motivates you a lot more. He made it easy for us.
That rumour has now been confirmed and m0NESY has been signed, how are you feeling about playing with him?
I haven't played with him yet so I don't know how it'll be, but I'm very excited and have high expectations. I've only heard incredible things and from the outside he's one of the best AWPers, so I can't wait for that.
Does the move for m0NESY change the expectations for the team or did the win in Bucharest do that anyway?
Yeah, it has to change a little bit. When you have no practice with a guy and going into tournaments, even if it's an AWPer and it's easier to plug and play, all the team dynamics and how you work as a team changes a little bit.
We have to wait and see how it's going to go, but for us to perform optimally we're going to need some practice with him.
Social media is full of reports and rumours about the team and the move for m0NESY wasn't the only one circulating, how do you keep up the level shown in Bucharest despite having all those distractions?
There's all of that noise around the team, but there's nothing you can do about it. The only thing you can do is show up every day as the best version of yourself and that's my focus. The better we do, the less noise there will be, so that's the focus.
You speak about being the best version of yourself there and we spoke to zonic before BLAST Open about that, he said then that you need to become more comfortable as one of the stars of the team, how are you feeling about your progression towards that?
That's a big task for me, to see myself as that. I really don't see it that way, I see myself as 100% a team player and I go in with the mindset of doing everything for the team in order to win and sacrifice where I need to.
That's how I've been doing things for the last five years and I believe I'll keep doing that, being that second star or so to say, hopefully will lift a little bit after bringing m0NESY in, so I can focus then on doing what I'm best at.
The new Falcons roster will debut at IEM Melbourne, what's the thought process ahead of the event? Is it just about getting experience with the new player and feeling it out?
Yeah, it's a bit tough to say. We have the hopes of going to win, because you bring in m0NESY and just want to win everything, but that's not how the world works and we have to go through the stratbook with him, so hopefully he's good at remembering.
After Melbourne you'll be heading to Copenhagen for BLAST Rivals, how are you feeling about that one?
I'm excited for it, and it would mean that we've had some experience with m0NESY, so hopefully we're there and ready to show a better level.
Beyond that, we're rapidly approaching the end of the season at the BLAST.tv Austin Major now, what are your thoughts on that?
I think everyone has higher expectations for the Major than they do right now. Before it starts we'll be able to have some practice with m0NESY and build on the things we've started, then we should be able to show some really good CS.
