Today we witnessed the climactic conclusion of EU RMR B, with three more teams locking themselves in for Paris and one team securing a Legends stage spot. The excitement didn’t end there, as we immediately jumped into the Last Chance Qualifier to start the process of finding out who will be the final team joining us in the city of light!
Both G2 and Vitality had already locked in their spots for the Major before heading into today, but their encounter was of particular importance. With 16 top teams battling it out in the Challengers stage, heading straight to Legends can be a real relief. This game moves them to the deciding game against Monte for a Legends spot. Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut and Dan "apEX" Madesclaire relieved some of the pressure already facing them as two of the only Frenchmen competing in Paris, securing a 2-0 over G2 off the back of a typically impressive performance from the French AWPer.
Legendary Swedish organization NiP will be making an appearance at the final CS:GO Major after their victory over BIG today. Taking down the German side 2-0, double overtime was required on BIG’s map pick of Mirage, with the Ninjas securing a 22-20 victory after already winning Vertigo 16-11.
At the very least, one CIS team was making it to the Major following Aurora’s clash with Forze. Andrey "Jerry" Mekhryakov’s squad was the hungrier of the two teams with another 2-0 series and a 12-3 half on Nuke from Forze posing an insurmountable hill for Aurora to climb, closing the final map 16-10.
In the most surprising result of the day, European side ENCE took down Cloud9 to book their spot at the Major after coming back from an 0-2 start to the Swiss system. The surprising part of this affair was not in the fact that ENCE were the victors, but in the manner that they took the series. A 2-0 victory after being forced into overtime on Ancient, it looked from the veto that all three maps would be required considering Cloud9’s prowess on Vertigo. However, Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer called a masterful T-side on the 51st floor, taking the game and sending C9 to the LCQ with a 16-12 scoreline.
There was no rest for the wicked in Copenhagen, as Cloud9 was launched back into action in the LCQ shortly after their loss to ENCE. Taking on fellow CIS team B8, experience and firepower shun through as Dmitriy “sh1ro” Sokolov and Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov showed no signs of being down after their recent loss and dispatched B8 with relative ease.
No one was more surprised to see FaZe go down 2-3 in EU RMR A than FaZe themselves. Taking on Aurora, in a similar vein to Cloud9, FaZe showed no signs of stress or panic from the situation they now find themselves in, making light work of their lesser experienced opponents and moving one step closer to recovery.
The day's final match was heartbreaking for French fans, as BIG eliminated Falcons from Major contention in crushing fashion. 16-13 on Nuke and 16-14 on Mirage means that we won’t have a full French team in attendance and legendary AWPer Kenny "kennyS" Schrub won’t grace the server for the final Global Offensive Major.
