Rocket League may seem like a simple game on its surface, but even players with hundreds of hours in the game are considered “newer” compared to those who have been playing for years.
It’s a game that’s easy to pick up and extremely difficult to master, which is why it’s stuck around so long and continues to be one of the most played games on all platforms.
Ahead, we’ll cover all of the ranks in Rocket League and how to track your progression through things like Rocket League Tracker and BakkesMod. Stay tuned to Blast.tv for more Rocket League tips and to view the upcoming Rocket League tournaments for 2024 and beyond.
There are currently nine rank titles in Rocket League, with another four divisions within each rank. That means that, in total, there are 23 total ranks in the game - including Unranked and the top-level of Supersonic Legend (neither of which have divisions).
You’ll start your ranked journey at unranked and continue climbing until you reach a skill wall - wherever that is for you. Some may climb all the way to Grand Champion right away, and others will be hard-stuck in Gold. Such is the nature of any ranked experience.
Every Rank in Rocket League includes:
Competitive Rocket League doesn’t have only one rank, meaning you may have one rank in solo play and another in Trios. Each rank operates independently from one another, so you can always start fresh if you find yourself hard-stuck in one of the modes.
Of course, Rocket League is still calculating your MMR in the background. If you’re a Champion player in Duos and haven’t played Solos before, you probably won’t go up against an unranked player.
You may take a step backwards - maybe to Diamond or even Platinum, but you won’t start fresh - making your ability to climb a lot more reasonable.
If you want to achieve the highest rank possible, we recommend sticking to the modes you’re best at. High-level dribblers can finesse people in solos, whereas their skills aren’t as useful in Trios. If you have a cracked friend, running Duos will probably be your best bet to gaining rank.
MMR refers to “matchmaking rating,” which is an invisible number that determines the skill of each player. With this hidden number, developers will attempt to match players of similar skill with one another.
This system happens in both ranked and unranked, but it’s a lot more noticeable in ranked. There’s no way to tell exactly what your unranked MMR is, but it’s typically close to, if not exactly, what your ranked MMR is. Unfortunately, that makes it tough to tell your MMR without engaging in ranked play.
Skill-based matchmaking is a topic of heated debate in gaming, but not so much in Rocket League. It isn’t really fun for a Grand Champ to stomp on a Bronze who can’t even get off the ground. All things considered, Rocket League’s matchmaking doesn’t get near as much criticism as it does in team-based shooting games and battle royales.
As is the case with every competitive game, hardcore players will obsess about their statistics, rank, and ability to climb in all game modes. With this comes the ability to track your rank in all modes.
One of the most popular external trackers is Rocket League Tracker. This website gives you a detailed breakdown of your rank, past matches, stats, and more. You can download their app for Rocket League or track it on their website.
To use Rocket League Tracker, all you need to do is log into the website and search for a player’s username. From there, you’ll be able to look at all of their statistics and past matches to see where they stand. As you can guess, this means that you can look at almost anyone’s rank and match history. If your friend is talking up their game and you know they’re full of it, you can easily expose them with one trip to Rocket League Tracker.
PC players can download BakkesMod for even closer tracking of their ranks. This mod allows you to view your Rocket League rank, progression, stats, and a lot more. You can even customize your settings using BakkesMod to see what the pros are using.
If you’re on a console, you won’t have access to mods and will need to rely on Rocket League Tracker for all of your data. If you are on a PC, there’s no reason not to download BakkesMod and take a look at all that it offers.
Hardcore ranked grinders will find the mod particularly useful, so check it out and see if it adds to your abilities.
Grinding ranked is one of the most satisfying experiences in gaming, and Rocket League has a fleshed-out ranked system that’s among the top in the industry. With team counts being so low, it’s hard to complain about being hard-stuck without looking in the mirror, making Rocket League ranked a bit less toxic than games like Valorant and League of Legends.
