In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the sequel to Warhorse Studios ’ 2018 Kingdom Come: Deliverance, everything is bigger and better.
Throughout the game, players are presented with two vast and very different regions to explore: the Trosky region and the Kuttenberg region. These two areas offer new and distinct environments, as well as a list of new challenges as you continue to venture through them.
Beginning in the Trosky region, players will unlock the Kuttenberg region later in the story, giving them far more than ever to explore. This can be a little overwhelming, so fortunately the game has an Explorer Perk that will reveal the map, key locations, and points of interest.
With the two regions being so different, we’ve put together this quick guide on the maps within Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 so you know what to expect when you begin your adventure.
The Trosky region is where your adventure begins. Out in the countryside, it is characterised by small villages, rolling hills, and luscious forests. An ideal setting for players to familiarise themselves with the game’s mechanics and early quests, it allows players to become comfortable with the mechanics of the game and its world without becoming overwhelmed by its bigger challenges.
You’ll start your journey between the Nomad's Camp and Zhelejov, where you’ll learn the basics of combat, exploration, and resource management. The tutorial guides you through these mechanics and leads you towards Troskowitz, the first major settlement in the region, before you can explore the area in greater depth.
Trosky is filled with quiet villages, farming communities, and other rural settlements that play a key role in the game’s early stages. More peaceful than Kuttenberg, think of Trosky as the calm before the storm that you will encounter halfway through your game.
As you progress, you’ll encounter a variety of quests, ranging from combat training to gathering resources. These quests will help you learn the basics of the game while earning essential rewards.
The Trosky region is where you’ll first get a taste of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's place within the RPG world, and where it differs from games like Monster Hunter or Avowed. A far more realistic and brutal take on the genre, KCD2 isn’t a walk in the park, so you might want to learn how to save your game before it’s too late.
Around halfway through your playthrough, you’ll gain access to the Kuttenberg region. This area is significantly larger and more complex than Trosky, introducing a boatload of new challenges and opportunities. The city of Kuttenberg, the largest settlement in the region, is a bustling hub filled with traders, merchants, and political quarrels.
The Kuttenberg region is an industrial powerhouse, with quarries, construction sites, and an urban landscape that shows signs of significant growth and development. Full of political struggle, wealthy figures battle for power and influence. It’s in Kutternberg where KCD2 will become a real challenge..
One of the highlights of the Kuttenberg region is the variety of opportunities it provides for mid-to-late game players. Kuttenberg City is a prime location for trading, and it's an excellent place to sell weapons, armor, and other valuable items you’ve acquired from bandits and other enemies. If you’re looking to make some extra cash in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Kutternberg City is the place to do it.
Kuttenberg also offers a lot more in terms of quests and challenges. The political climate in this region is brutal, with powerful figures vying for control. The Kuttenberg region is where you’ll go even deeper into the story, encounter even more dangerous enemies, and have to handle far higher stakes. As a player, this is the region where you’ll begin to truly experience the full range of what Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has to offer in terms of gameplay and depth.
Unlike most other games, fast travel in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is incredibly unique. Where in most RPGs fast travel is simply a way to quickly skip over the world, the fast travel system in KCD2 is designed to keep the player engaged in the journey, adding elements of discovery and risk to every trip.
In KCD2, fast travel is straightforward: you can select any city or village you've previously visited, and the game will begin the journey automatically. However, this is not an instant teleportation. Instead, you get to watch your character travel to the selected location on the map, as if the game is simulating a real-time journey.
During this time, hours pass, and your character’s stamina and hunger levels are both affected, making it feel like a real part of your journey and not just an instant skip. Like all things in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, everything must come with risk, and fast travelling is no exception.
KCD2 also introduces random roadside encounters during these fast travel sequences. While traveling, you may come across a variety of characters and situations. These situations could be a group of travelers asking for help, a bandit ambush, or a wandering merchant.
If you choose not to stop for these encounters, you can continue on your journey, but should you decide to engage, you may find yourself participating in something as mundane as a conversation or as intense as a fight for your life. It’s just about whether you’re willing to take the risk. And, if you are, we suggest you get your hands on some of the best armour in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
