Despite still being in its closed beta phase, Riot's fighting game already allows players to queue competitively in a ranked ladder. While the system is similar to the one seen in League of Legends, there are some differences that should be taken into account.
Whether this is your first time playing a Riot Games title or fighting game, or even if you are a long time veteran from the genre, we have you covered. Here is the 2XKO ranking system, explained.
Image Via Riot Games. At the current time, 2XKO has eleven ranked divisions. The first nine work via tiers, while the tenth and eleventh ones change things up. We will go into those later. The only division that isn't included in the above image is Challenger.
Tiers go from one to three, instead of four to one like they do in League of Legends. Each tier has 100 points, so going above that will take you to the next tier. If you surpass 100 points in the last tier of a rank, for example, you reach Silver 3 99 points and win a game, you will be promoted to Gold 1 with, for example, 10 points.
On the other hand, losing a game with, let's say, 5 points, will not immediately demote you to the tier below. You will instead be taken down to 0 points, and only after you lose a game at 0 points will you be demoted.
To get into ranked, you need to reach Account level 3, after which you are able to select ranked when you queue for a game. The first time you do this, you will have to play five placement matches.
Although there is no mention of this officially from Riot, it seems like Casual matches assign you a hidden MMR, since people can be placed anywhere from Bronze to Diamond, even with the same placement match record.
Image Via Riot Games. When your MMR (Matchmaking Rating) is stable, which happens after reaching close to a 50% win ration, you should be winning and losing 9 to 10 Ranked Points per match.
Much like in League of Legends, points won and lost will change if you go on a streak. A winning streak can get you up to 30 RP per match, while a losing streak can make you lose similar numbers.
Like in other Riot Games, the objective is to get you close to a 50% win ration, at which point you will be at your "correct" rank. Like previously mentioned, winning a game close too 100 RP in a tier will promote you to the next one, as long as you win enough RP. For example, if you are getting 10 RP per match and win one at Gold II 93 RP, you will be promoted to Gold III at 3 RP.
Winning a game that promotes you from Master III will get you into Grandmaster, which does not have a three-tiered system like all previous ranks. Instead, Grandmaster players climb through their RP system. The more RP you have, the higher you rank is.
If you are amongst the top 500 players with the most RP in your server, you will be "promoted" to Challenger. Challenger does not have promotions and demotions, though, it works in a fluid manner depending on how many RP the top 500 players have. At the time of writing, the Challenger rank seems to be reset every two weeks, but there is no mention of any rewards for ending the week in Challenger like there is in LoL.

Since 2XKO is a tag fighter that is meant to be played in a duo, Riot Games did not include any ranked restrictions like the ones seen in their other titles. You can play with your duo regardless of your ranked difference, as long as neither of you is Grandmaster. If you want to duo in Grandmaster, you both have to be there.
With that being said, duo queueing will often lead to tougher matches, especially if there is a larger discrepancy between yours and your duo's rank. RP gains and losses will also be impacted by the discrepancy, so keep that in kind when you head off into your grind with a friend. The best experience will come if you both are ranked relatively close to each other.
Image Via Riot Games.Everything will be reset once the Closed Beta phase ends. You will lose your rank and all your champion mastery. If this phase has been any indication though, 2XKO has an hidden MMR system that will allow you to place very high even if you lose most of your placement matches, if the game thinks you are skilled from your casual match results.
Also, do keep in mind that ranked has been a bit wonky in this initial phase of the Closed Beta. It is likely that as more players get into ranked, things will stabilize and players will land into what their actual ranks are meant to be. So if you feel like your results are being streaky, that should be organically fixed with time.
Casual queue is also always open for those who don't want to get into ranked yet or prefer to not risk their rank with their duos. Have fun out there!
