Tundra Esports successfully defended their crown at BLAST Slam III. If you're looking for the meta-heroes of the tournament to spam in your pubs, don't worry, we've got you covered. Let's take a look at the most popular meta heroes of the tournament together – shall we?
In Patch 7.38c, some heroes received buffs – one of which was Templar Assassin. The buffs gave her a second life, making her a deadly pick at the tournament. She was contested in 42 out of 43 matches at BLAST Slam III. The key buff was her first ability, Refraction, which gained additional instances.
Consequently, it makes her have a much stronger laning stage. This allows her to transition smoothly into the mid-game when TA is the strongest. Her traditional item build, which includes Desolator — another item buffed in this patch — allows her to output devastating burst damage.
As the game progresses, Templar can now become a late-game threat thanks to those buffs, making her an excellent choice. She can also be a flex pick as she can either be played in the safelane or midlane.
Templar Assassin only got through the drafting stage in three matches, boasting a 66.67% win rate.
Sand King is another hero that saw a resurgence at BLAST Slam III. Once a forgotten meta hero, this hero found new relevance thanks to his build centralising around Aghanim's Scepter. Although it takes some time for this build to come online, it allows him to scale well as the game progresses and a potent threat in skirmishes.
The hero also offers flexibility to be played either as a midlaner or offlaner. Sand King has a 95.35% contest rate across 41 matches. However, this hero only has a 46.15% win rate in the 13 matches he got through the drafting phase.
The only hero that was contested in every match and enjoys a solid win rate is Beastmaster. This hero has been enjoying his time as the top meta pick for a while now and at BLAST Slam III we saw the reason why.
Beastmaster can either be played as an offlaner, a midlaner or even as a safelaner. He only needs his Aghanim's Scepter to come online. This item, combined with his Beast Mode facet, deals an immeasurable amount of damage. He allows his team to secure objectives early, including the Roshan.
Who wouldn't like a hero that can initiate, can take objectives easily, can come online early and is extremely hard to bring down? In the tournament, Beastmaster had a 53.85% win rate in 13 matches he got through.
Bristleback was also among the most contested heroes at BLAST Slam III, boasting a 97.67% contest rate across 42 matches. His Snot Rocket facet not only allows him to have a strong laning stage, but it also makes him a strong presence for his team in skirmishes.
The armour reduction and the slows it gives are lethal for those that get caught in it. Bristleback only made it through the draft in six matches despite being highly contested, posting a 50% win rate.
BLAST Slam III has its own share of unorthodox picks. However, one Dota 2 hero among them stood out – Tinker support. While this isn’t entirely new, we've seen a support Tinker dominate the meta in the past. Now, it looks like this meta is coming back.
With the Repair Bots facet and a Holy Locket, Tinker offers strong sustain in skirmishes through his second ability, March of the Machines. His third ability, Defense Matrix, also provides a damage barrier to him and his allies, making it extremely difficult to bring them down.
Tinker was also occasionally played as a midlaner with the Translocator facet. Tinker had a 77.78% win rate in the 9 matches where he got through.
Morphling is the only safelane hero that was consistently contested. He has a 74.42% contest rate across 32 matches. Morphling enjoys a moderate laning stage but scales as the game progresses. He counters most of the meta-heroes and is agile. Morphling had a 50% win rate in the 12 matches where he got through.
That’s a wrap, folks! These were the standout meta-heroes at BLAST Slam III. We hope you enjoyed watching the tournament as much as we did — and we look forward to seeing you all in Singapore this November!
