Counter-Strike 2 is one of the most played games on Steam every single day. The sequel to one of the most popular games of all time, CS:GO, the game has guaranteed it's playerbase for another generation.
However, that doesn't mean that the entirety of the CS:GO playerbase gets to enjoy CS2. That is because CS2 is currently not available on Mac, leading players questioning: When will CS2 come to Mac?
As of right now, Counter-Strike 2 is not available to Mac users.
Players may wonder if CS2 will ever be playable on Mac and whether it's current absence is simply due to development time. However, according to a statement from Valve, CS2 will likely never be playable on Mac.
"As technology advances, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue support for older hardware, including DirectX 9 and 32-bit operating systems. Similarly, we will no longer support macOS. Combined, these represented less than one percent of active CS:GO players." - Valve
Don't worry though, Mac users, you're not alone in you're suffering. Despite current generation console players having platforms more than capable of running CS2, CS2 will also never be playable on console.
However, there is one way you might be able to bypass Valve's decision to not port CS2 to Mac.
And no, it doesn't invovle you spending 1000s on a Windows PC.
If you want to play CS2 on Mac, you will need Boot Camp.
If you're not sure what that is, Boot Camp is a tool for Mac users that helps them install Windows operating systems.
With Boot Camp, after installing windows, you will be able to play CS2 as you will now be using an operating system that supports it.
However, your ability to play the game will depend on the strength of your Mac. Some older systems may not meet the minimum system requirements to play CS2.
If you are confused why, this is because CS2 requires a more powerful system to run it due to new features like the upgraded smokes and the sub-tick system.
Unfortunately, CS2 will likely never be available to Mac users. Although newer Mac systems would be able to handle the game, the percentage of playerbase that would be playing on those Macs is surely not enough for Valve to justify the time and money it would take to port the game.
This is especially true when they are working on big updates to the game, such as the recent Armory update.
