We've already said goodbye to a few teams here at BLAST Open Lisbon, and four more teams joined them in taking early exits after the action on day five.
A day that began with a crazy BO3 between Virtus.pro and Falcons, it was followed by three straight 2-0 victories.
Let's recap the action.
The banger opener was contested between Falcons and Virtus.pro. A series that ended victorious for electroNic and his gang, it marks a second disappointing tournament exit for Falcons after reaching the final of PGL Cluj-Napoca.
The series began on Mirage, a map that Falcons managed to secure with a 13-11 victory. degster and kyxsan were the main reasons behind the win, their combined 39 kills more than made up for the 39 the rest of their teammates could manage.
Virtus.pro bounced back on Ancient, winning 19-16 in the first of two overtime games in the remainder of the series. degster once again top-fragged for Falcons, but it was the 31 kills on FL4MUS that saw him top the server and keep his team in the series.
After more grueling overtimes, Virtus.pro finally closed out the series with the score 22-20 on Inferno. A map that once looked easily winnable for Falcons, Virtus.pro came back from being 12-5 down to win it in OT.
Our second game of the day would decide who would play Virtus.pro for the final playoff spot in Group A, with Spirit being the worthy winners after seeing off FaZe with relative ease.
Spirit began the series with a 10-2 CT side on Anubis, putting FaZe in a horrible spot considering how T-sided the map is. A quiet map for donk at 13-17, that mattered for little as sh1ro, magixx, and zont1x all ended the game with 20 kills or more.
donk played far better on Nuke, but you know it's a bad day for FaZe to play Spirit when 2024's player of the year hasn't top fragged a map in a series and Spirit have still dominated. Instead, zont1x topped the scoreboard, his 21 kills helped Spirit to a 13-9 win.
After Spirit dispatched FaZe, another one of the world's most in-form teams made their way into a lower-bracket final as The MongolZ eliminated Liquid.
Another clean 2-0 victory, The MongolZ began the series with a 13-7 win on Anubis, easily capitalising on the comfortable 8-4 lead they earned themselves at the half. Techno struggled on the map, getting just six kills in the 20 rounds played, but a strong performance from captain bLitz was enough to see The MongolZ claim the advantage in the series.
Although Liquid then bounced back and began Ancient with a 7-5 lead from the CT side, The MongolZ's CT side proved to be more effective, limiting Liquid to just one T round as Senzu dominated with a 28-14 statline to secure the 13-8 win.
m0NESY may have had some struggles recently, but you couldn't tell in our final game of the day.
The third 2-0 in a row, m0NESY top-fragged with 53 kills in two maps, 21 more than his next teammate, which was huNter- on 32.
The series began on M80's map pick, Ancient, which G2 opened with a strong 8-4 lead on their CT side. The second half was more even, with both teams picking up five rounds apiece, but those five rounds were enough for G2 to close out the game thanks to their already good lead.
Map two, Inferno, was closer, and this time it was M80 who began the map with an 8-4 lead from their CT side. However, despite that sounding positive for their chances, m0NESY took over in the second half, going 20-6 as G2 pulled off the comeback to seal the map 13-11.
