It is fairly obvious why Windrose appeals to the min-maxers among us. Even in its first stage of Early Access it already has dozens of hours, a ton of things to explore, huge base-building potential, and a ton of grinding.

But sometimes speedrunning and skipping every bit of lore can come to bite us in the bottom. Here is how to find the chests in Traveler’s Camp in Windrose, and why you are always missing one of them.
You can go through 95% of Windrose without reading a single journal entry. Even the ones that do lead to quests automatically mark the objective on your map. But there is one exception: the Traveler’s Camps.
If you’re like me, the first one you bumped into was the first location that you left incomplete. There was one chest right in front of the main tent, but the second one was nowhere to be found.
Besides the chest, there was also a journal entry, though. And if you read it, it features a crucial clue towards the end of the text:

“I’ll bury the chest again beneath the tree marked with a strip of red cloth”.
So instead of destroying the entire land around the Traveler’s Camp with your shovel (which we of course didn’t do…), just look for a nearby tree with a red scarf. In our experience, it is always a tree without any leaves.
Find that tree, and dig around it. Make sure to always dig twice as these chests are usually buried pretty deep. Digging twice will always let you see the sparkle indicating loot and that is where the chest is.
All Traveler’s Camps have letters, but even though the first part of the text changes, the finale is always the same, and so is the solution. Loot the chest in front of the tent, and then look for the leafless tree with a red scarf.
So far, this is the only “puzzle” we’ve found in Windrose which requires you to read anything. Have you found any others?
