Subnautica 2, much like the original, is all about exploration. Unlike its predecessor, though, its progression isn’t as dependent on depth. You are still limited by your oxygen supply, but that isn’t the biggest factor.
Most of the areas you cannot access in the beginning of the game are due to a lack of Adaptations. If you’re not opposed to spoilers, we bring you an unofficial Subnautica 2 map, courtesy of the folks at Mapgenie and a kind soul on Reddit. Let’s get into it.
Mapgenie rarely miss with their interactive maps, and the one they created for Subnautica 2 is excellent. You can choose from dozens of filters from Adaptations to species of Plants and Wildlife.
The map appears to be an extremely high resolution render of the real 3D map, so you can zoom all the way in to help you locate where you are at every point. The only thing it is missing is a boundary indicator, which is understandable since they aren’t exactly straight lines.
But someone thought of that, too.
User in-need-of-funds created his own unofficial solution to a map with potential biome boundaries. He used Mapgenie as a base and tried to create a logical system for boundaries based on what “feels” right.
This will always be up for interpretation since there likely aren’t actual boundaries planned by Unknown Worlds. You might notice that the map is oddly narrow, especially when compared to the original game:

This is likely because we only have access to the middle part of the full map and the developers will expand it North and South as they progress through Early Access. Subnautica 2’s 1.0 map will likely look much more similar to the original game’s.
As it stands, Subnautica 2’s map is around a third of the size of the original, but we would expect it to be as big or even bigger than it. We’ll keep this article updated as Unknown Worlds slowly unveil what lies beyond the creepy red walls limiting the current explorable areas.
