Playstation State Of Play 2025
2024 was weird year for Playstation. It was objectively better than 2023 when it comes to Sony-published releases, but it also featured the massive flop that was Concord.
Still, last year Sony surprised the world with Helldivers 2 taking the industry by storm in February, with the entire gaming community at least knowing about the fierce battle for Democracy. It also ended 2024 strong with the excellent Astro Bot being crowned GOTY at The Game Awards.
The first State of Play of the year finally gave us a deeper look into what Sony has in store for us, and what could be the best games coming to Playstation in the next couple of years.
Here's what the first Playstation State of Play of 2025 had to show us.
Monster Hunter: Wilds
MH WildsDespite not being an exclusive, not even a timed one anymore, Monster Hunter has felt at home on the Playstation since MH: World took the franchise to a completely new level, all this while being a timed console exclusive.
Wilds, the spiritual successful to World, is coming in February 28th and is expected to become the biggest and most successful release in the legendary Capcom franchise.
Before the game even releases, Capcom have already confirmed the first free content update, which will come during Spring 2025. Mizutsune, who graced our screens most recently in Monster Hunter: Rise, will be the first update to MH: Wilds.
Borderlands 4
Borderlands 4The newest entry in Borderlands 4 has gotten an official release date: September 24, 2025. Gearbox Studios released a new short trailer, and promised to show more of the game in a Spring State of Play dedicated entirely to the latest entry in the beloved franchise.
Split Fiction
Split FictionThe winner of The Game Award's GOTY back in 2021 is back! Josef Fares and his wonderful team over at Hazelight Studios are sticking to their guns, making another co-op only adventure.
Split Fiction is coming to PS5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC March 6th, 2025. Check out the newest gameplay trailer.
Directive 8020
Directive 8020The Dark Pictures Anthology is now taking us to space. Directive 8020 brings what the series is now known for: excellent acting paired with smooth motion captured performances in a creepy setting.
This time, Alien and The Thing seem to be the main influences, but check out the trailer for yourself. It's coming October 2nd.
The Midnight Walk
The Midnight WalkWith a mesmerizing art style that is simultaneously beautiful and terrifying, The Midnight Walk is coming to wow you on PS5 and PSVR2 on May 8, 2025.
Created by the people who brought us Lost in Random, this new title brings a new level of fidelity to the wonderful stop-motion-like style that the developers have mastered.Enemy design looks fantastic and the game looks genuinely scary. Take a look.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Onimusha Way Of The SwordCapcom has been on a tear in recent years, and this does not seem like an exception. A lot of people have never played an Onimusha game before, especially with the latest entry in the series having been released more than a decade ago, in 2021.
The player will take control of Miyamoto Musashi, a skilled samurai in the Sengoku period. This latest trailer showed quite a lot of gameplay sequences, with flashy combat and visceral finishers. The comedic cutscenes were obviously a highlight.
We already have a feeling that this one is getting into our list of most anticipated games for 2026.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid DeltaThe incredibly faithful remake is one of those rare cases of a game looking better and better the more we see of it. Although this trailer is 90% cutscenes, we can't wait to get our hands on the first "new" Metal Gear Solid in a long time (no, we don't acknowledge the existence of MGS: Survive).
It's coming August 28, 2025.
Hell is Us
Hell Is UsAA developer Rogue Factor, known for Necromunda and Mordheim, are tackling their biggest, and best looking, title yet.
Hell is Us looks fantastic so far, and has gotten us intrigued. A mysterious world, bizarre character designs and great voice acting seem to be ideal ingredients to a great videogame. We'll know more when it releases on September 4, 2025.
Lies of P: Overture
Lies Of P OvertureThe music was a weird choice, but we didn't really a need a trailer to convince us on this one regardless.
Lies Of P, the fantastic Souls-like that came out of nowhere, is getting a snowy-themed expansion in Overture. You'll get your hands on it this Summer.
Tides Of Anihilation
Tides Of AnnihilationComing out of nowhere, chinese studio Eclipse Glow Games surprised us with Tides of Anihilation. This beautiful-looking title seems to be taking a lot of inspiration from Devil May Cry.
The visuals are stunning, and the setting is weird, but promising. The game seems to be fusing medieval fantasy with skyscrapers in what seem to be the remains of modern day London.
The players will take control of Gwendolyn, who is able to summon Knights of the Round Table to her aid against bosses that move way too quickly.
Check it out for yourself, and wishlist it! There's no release date for this one yet.
Metal Eden
Metal EdenStylish visuals, bloody combat, satisfying shooting and an incredibly smooth movement system.
Metal Eden seems to mix the DOOM combat with Ghostrunner movement in what Playstation describes as a "sci-fi adrenaline rush FPS". The game's coming to PS5 on May 6.
Mindseye
MindseyeThis explosive title, to be published by IO interactive, has only just been announced, but it wasn't afraid to show quite a bit of gameplay footage.
The story revolves around the eternal battle between humans and machines, in a story-driven experience that features "best-in-class cinematics, high octane driving, and explosive combat".
If you felt some GTA vibes, that's because this project is headed by Leslie Benzies, the lead developer on the likes of GTA III, GTA Vice City, GTA IV, and GTA V.
This is his first project since he left Rockstar back in 2016, and it is looking promising, but it doesn't have a release date yet.
SAROS
SAROSHousemarque studios is back again. After the massive success of Returnal, the team is ready to fine-tune the third-person shooter blueprint with a hint of another in-universe roguelite system.
The protagonist, voiced and performed by the fantastic Rahul Kohli, appears to be in a death loop surrounding a Sun dying repeatedly. The game's cycle likely ends everytime the Sun is dying, and the player seems to be hunting a specific enemy.
We'll likely know more when the first gameplay footage comes out later this year. The game will release sometime during 2026.
What Else Was Announced?
Digimon Story: Time Stranger - The beloved franchise that enchanted most millenials' childhoods is back in videogame form! The devs seem to have opted for a Atlus-like approach, and the short footage we saw looked exciting.
Lost Soul Aside - Announced seven years ago, and expected to release back in 2020, this action combat game is finally releasing in May 30, 2025. It looks quite flashy.
WWE 2K25 - WWE is getting a new yearly release with an entirely new multiplayer featured called The Island. It's out March 7th on PS5/PS4, Xbox One/Series, and PC.
Five Nights At Freedy's: Secret of The Mimic - FNAF is back June 16th 2025. This new title looks as terrifying as ever.
Darwin's Paradox - Wonderfully charming videogame published by Konami. Play as a sneaky Octopus who uses camouflage to fight an alien invasion.
Darwin's ParadoxWarriors: Abyss - Koei Tecmo's latest entry in the Warriors franchise brings the Roguelite approach to the series. The game is available now on PS5 and PS4.
Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny - The Capcom PS2 classic is getting a remaster to prepare us all for the new entry in the series. Capcom promises quite a few improvements, including "fine-tuned analog controls". It's coming May 23rd.
Dreams of Another - "No Creation without destruction". This beautifully bizarre title sees you shoot its world into existence.
Days Gone: Remastered - It might not be getting a sequel anytime soon, but Days Gone is getting a remaster, bring new game modes to PC and a PS5 (and PS5 PRO) upgrade in April 25.
Stellar Blade x Nikke colab - Stellar Blade is getting a Nikke-themed DLC paired with its PC release during June.
Lost Records: Bloom & Rage - DON'T NOD, of Life is Strange fame, is getting back into their episodic releases with Lost Records, a narrative-focused videogame around four teenage girls.
Blue PrinceBlue Prince - Mysterious puzzles in gorgeous buildings presented in a gorgeous artstyle. What more would you need? Releasing day one in PS Plus Catalog sometime during Spring.
Abiotic Factor - 6 player survival crafting game that has been an Early Access story of success is coming to PS5 during this Summer.
