Funcom blew through any expectations when Dune: Awakening released back in June of 2025. Yet, as time went by, players starting drifting off and the ones that stayed kept complaining about the state of the game.
To combat that and to win players back, Dune: Awakening Chapter 3 is live with huge changes. Here is everything that you need to know about the biggest update the game has received yet.
As usual, this Chapter brings new story content to Dune: Awakening, but that isn’t what is getting players excited. Here are the biggest changes brought by this massive update.
The biggest complaint voiced by players was that taxes were a chore and an unhealthy way to boost player retention. It seems like Funcom have listened, because Taxes have been entirely removed from Dune: Awakening. Base decay is still a thing, though.
Tier 6 equipment (Plastanium) has been revamped, allowing players to enhance the highest tier of gear with Augments, allowing for more late game customization.
Five specializations have been added to the game: Combat, Crafting, Exploring, Gathering, and Sabotage. These have their own skill trees which you can progress in.

Duals Blades and Pyrrocket have been added. The Rapier has been entirely reworked.
You can now progress further with your Faction with new contracts, mission, and rewards.
The problematic Lansraad, the game’s main endgame loop, has been completely reworked. There are new replayable missions and new rewards.
Things haven’t changed as much in the DD as in other areas, but Funcom added more rocky zones to indirectly buff Ground Vehicles and they’ve entirely removed control points as they’re reworking the system.
We’ve gone over the highlights, but Chapter 3 has an endless list of patch notes. You can check all of them out here.

This definitely feels like the perfect time to return to the game if you’ve been gone for a while. Dune: Awakening Chapter 3 is the biggest update the game has gotten with a lot player requests being addressed.
Furthemore, if you didn’t log into Dune: Awakening for more than 28 days prior to the update launch, you get a Return Package. This is based on how far you progressed with your character, and is meant to get you ready to resume your journey where you left it.
