Black Myth Wukong can comfortably be divided into three parts: early, mid, and late. In terms of chapters, that translates to: Chapter One and Two, Three and Four, Five and Six.
The game’s difficulty considerably spikes between the early to mid game, but the tools at your disposal also become more powerful.
In this article we’ll rank the weapons available throughout the first two chapters in Black Myth Wukong, and how to craft them.
The first weapon we recommend comes with an asterisk. The Bronze Cloud Staff is an objective upgrade to the Willow Wood Staff, which is the base version of your weapon, but it can only be acquired by purchasing Black Myth Wukong’s Deluxe Edition.
If you own it, you can just get the weapon at the first shrine in Chapter One. This will get you 36 attack instead of the base staff’s 30, and a 2% increase to your Critical Hit Chance.
There’s no point in using the WIllow Wood Staff if you own the Deluxe Edition, just immediately upgrade to the Bronze Cloud Staff.
Attack: 36
Critical Hit Chance: 2%
Purchasing the Deluxe Edition
None
The first upgrade for most players will be the Twin Serpents Staff, which you unlock after defeating the White Robed Noble in the later half of Chapter One.
With 40 attack, it is a considerable damage increase, and comes with your first Unique Weapon Effect, which moderately increases the damage of Light Attack Combo finishers. This increase is noticeable, but becomes extremely powerful when you’re fighting in any kind of water bed.
You’ll know that the effect is activated because the ends of your staff will glow red. This weapon essentially trivializes the frog fights in the first two chapters of the game.
Attack: 40
Unique Effect: Moderately increase the Damage of Light Attack Combo finishers. The effect is massively enhanced when fighting in water.
Defeating the White Robed Noble
2700 Will
1 x Jade Fang
8 x Stone Spirit
The Wind Bear Staff can only be acquired after finishing Chapter One’s main story, but it will come in useful when you’re completing its secret bosses. After you take down Black Bear Guai, he’ll drop the unique crafting material Flame Ebongold, which will allow you to craft the staff.
It is another considerable bump in attack damage, comes with Critical Hit Chance bonus and with a powerful Unique Effect for your Cloud Step spell, which you’ll also receive after taking down Black Bear Guai.
Attack: 50
Critical Hit Chance: 4%
Unique Effect: Considerably increases the Critical Hit Chance of the Unveiling Strike of Cloud Step.
Defeating the Black Bear Guai.
8100 Will
1 x Flame Ebongold
8 x Stone Spirit
4 x Yaoguai Core
With the Chapter One weapons out of the way, we move onto the desert, which brings with it our very first Epic Staves. The Loongwreathe Staff can be considered the best weapon in the entirety of the first two chapters, but that would require you to exclusively use the Pillar Stance.
Given the AOE-focused nature of it, we consider it the worst of the three available Stances, which makes us place the Loongwreathe Staff as the weakest weapon in the second Chapter.
With that being said, it is still a considerable upgrade over the Wind Bear Staff, unless you fully upgraded the Cloud Step spell.
Crafting this weapon requires you unlock the Loong fights, which is something that this guide can help you with. You’ll be able to craft it after taking down the Red and Black Loongs.
Attack: 70
Unique Effect: Moderately increases the Damage dealt by all Pillar Stance moves.
Defeating the Red and Black Loongs.
21000 Will
4 x Refined Iron Sand
1 x Thunder Tail
1 x Thunderbone
If you’re having trouble in the Black Loong fight in Chapter Two, don’t worry, you can just skip that weapon and move on to the next one on the list: the Cloud-Patterned Staff.
This weapon is unlocked after another secret bossfight in the Yellow Wind Ridge, this time against the Shingandang.
Its attack is lower than the Loongwreathe Staff’s, but it comes with a defense boost and a juicy Unique Effect for Smash Stance users. With this in mind, we recommend the Could-Patterned Staff as the better choice of the two, unless you’re playing with Pillar Stance.
Attack: 60
Defense: 30
Unique Effect: Moderately increases the Damage executed by charged Smash Heavy Attacks..
Defeating the Shingandang.
8100 Will
1 x Heart of Stone
8 x Stone Spirit
4 x Yaoguai Core
If you read our piece on the best mid game builds in Black Myth Wukong, you’ll know how much we love the Rat Sage Staff. This weapon is so good that it can carry you throughout the entirety of Chapter Three.
You can craft it immediately after defeating the Yellow Wind Sage boss at the end of Chapter Two, and it is a massive upgrade for any player.
It deals more damage than the Cloud-Patterned Staff, comes with Critical Hit Chance and with a powerful unique spell that works in every Stance. What more do you need?
Attack: 66
Critical Hit Chance: 7%
Unique Effect: The Fourth Move of Light Attack Combo and Mobile Staff Spin can stir up a whirlwind of sands, increases attack range and Damage
Defeating the Yellow Wind Sage.
21000 Will
4 x Refined Iron Sand
1 x Samadhi Wind Agate
8 x Yaoguai Core
