Black Myth Wukong’s build diversity is fantastic. The amount of spells, weapons, armor sets, and skills at your disposal give you so much to play with, even more so when the game is so forgiving about letting you experiment with resources and skill allocation.
READ: Black Myth Wukong: Best Stance
If you followed our first build recommendations, — which you should stick to if you’re at the early stages of your journey to the West — you’ll be needing some updates once you reach chapter three and four.
Black Myth Wukong gets considerably tougher around these two chapters, but we have exactly what you need with our Best Mid Game Builds.
We’ll give you three powerful builds to play with, but we want to give you the necessary tools to build your own, or adapt one of ours to better fit your playstyle.
At this point, you should be using one of the stances as the base to any of your builds. You can spread your sparks between two stances at once, but it is definitely much more efficient to all-in onto one stance, while investing the remaining sparks into your foundation and spells.
Smash Stance is the most aggressive option of the three, rewarding consistent damage, high-risk varied combos, and charged heavy-attacks. This is the stance that will give you the highest possible DPS.
Pillar Stance is a tricky one. It excels at dealing with groups of enemies, but you’ll rarely find yourself in that situation. Although it is more difficult to make it effective in boss fights, when you max it out it can be one of the safest Stances available, as long as you use your tools well.
Lastly, we have the Thrust Stance. You should be playing this the same way you would Smash Stance. Be aggressive, be relentless. Thrust Stance doesn’t deal as much damage, but it builds more focus, spends less stamina, and uses varied combos to dodge instead of “parrying” enemy attacks, making it much safer.
Choose which stance fits your playstyle best, and build up from there. Choose a Mysticism spell to pair with it, an Alteration one as your main defensive tool, or invest into the Strand category if you are ready to raise your Mana.
Transformations are excellent tools for handling tough moments in bossfights, and you can either all-in onto one, or use your Sparks to make them all better, allowing you more flexibility.
The cherry on top of the cake is your weapon and armor, which must synergize well with whatever else you went with. Unlike Sparks, crafting ingredients cannot be refunded, so choose well in this department, unless you don’t mind spending some time farming for resources.
If all these aspects of your build are in harmony, you’ll be more than ready to take on Black Myth Wukong’s toughest challenges.
This is the build that turns the Destined One into Sekiro. The plan here is to overwhelm the opposition, no matter how big or intimidating it is. You need to be around level 50 to get the most out of this build, but you can make it work even earlier.
You’ll first need to fully invest into the right side of the Smash Stance tree. Get a single point into Force Unbound, and max every skill on the left side of the screen except for Secondary Damage and Endeavor, as shown in the image above. This gets you exactly the points you need to unlock four focus.
Next, max out Immobilize, while paying special attention to Evanescence, the strongest upgrade to the spell you can have. Maxing everything out gives you more damage dealt during Immobilize, extends its duration and lowers its cooldown.
Finally, we max out Rock Solid, our strongest defensive tool. The combination of Rock Solid, Immobilize, especially with Evanescence, and Smash Stance’s Resolute Strike, turn you into a relentless parrying menace.
You only want to dodge when you’re in serious trouble with this build, otherwise you’re always fishing for Immobilize, Rock Solid deflection or Resolute Strike as the answer to your enemy’s attacks.
For your weapon, you should take the Rat Sage Staff, which you can craft at the end of Chapter 2. This raises the damage your Light Attack Combo does. The ability to reach it faster after a Resolute Strike and the fact that the fully upgraded Immobilize does not cancel your Combo means that you’ll be using this Unique Effect a lot.
Your armor should be the Bronze Set, with its Evil Crasher set bonus. You can craft it after completing Chapter One’s secret area, and defeating Elder Jinchi. This set makes your Immobilize even stronger, which considerably raises your DPS.
If you feel like you take too much damage with it in Chapter Three, don’t worry, you will be able to upgrade its defenses half-way through the chapter.
For your Vessel, Wind Tamer is the only right choice, and you unlock it at the end of Chapter Two. The massive Damage Reduction you get from its active allows you to be even more aggressive, and that aggression rewards you with more Might, effectively reducing the Vessel’s cooldown.
We leave the Spirit and Transformation choices up to you, but we recommend a high-damage pick like the Wandering Wight, which can be effectively comboed with your Immobilize.
Pros:
Cons:
If you don’t have the patience to carefully learn boss patterns, or if you want to be the most slippery monkey ever seen, this build will be perfect for you.
Thrust Stance is another excellent choice for a build focused on boss fights. You want to max both sides of its tree, while distributing your remaining sparks as shown above, so you can reach the required 20/20 to unlock four focus points.
Ring of Fire is the perfect Mysticism spell for this build, as you can still use your charged Heavy Attack while inside it. The mobility that comes from the Thrust Stance also helps you get back into the Ring of Fire if the boss ever forces you out of it. You unlock this spell during the earlier stages of Chapter Three.
In the Alteration side of things, Cloud Step is the superior choice. It is the perfect mix of a defensive and offensive tool. You can use it as a panic button when you’re out of focus points, or as an excellent follow up for Forceful Thrust.
This combination of spells with the Thrust Stance makes you hyper-mobile, which you can use both offensively and defensively. You’ll rarely run out of Stamina, you’ll just have to be mindful of your Mana during longer boss fights.
Chu-Bai Spear is the perfect weapon for this build, it synergizes wonderfully with this kit. But you only unlock it at the end of Chapter Three, so you should be using the Rat Sage Staff until you reach it.
For the armor set, opt for the Ebongold three-piece paired with the See No Evil headgear. Your Cloud Step will become incredibly powerful, and perfect dodges will be easier to come by, giving you even more focus.
We will, again, leave the Spirit and Transformation choices as a matter of preference, but we’d recommend something quick or ranged, since we’re not running Immobilize.
Pros:
Cons:
For this build, you’ll entirely forego spells, with one exception: Spell Binder. If you haven’t tried it yet, this Mysticism spell brings you down to a sort of challenge mode. You can’t use any other spells, Transformations, Spirits, or Vessels.
Spell Binder also consumes all your Mana, and depletes your entire stamina upon casting when it’s fully maxed out. In return, you get a massive damage bonus for the duration of the spell, which is a bit over a minute.
With this build, you can afford to split your points between two stances simultaneously. Since you’re doing this, you don’t need to put any points into the left side of the skill trees to reach the required 20/20 for the Four Focus points.
There will be some Sparks left over, and those should be invested into Robust Constitution, and other defensive skills in your Foundation tree. This build is much more dangerous than the other two, and you need the extra HP if you want to survive.
For your weapon, the Rat Sage Staff is fine, but you really want to aim for Spikeshaft Staff, a weapon which you can unlock after finishing Chapter Three. You want to end fights during the duration of your Spell Binder, so you need as much damage as possible.
Since you have no defensive tool outside of your dodges, you better be ready to make those Perfect. You don’t need the four-piece bonus of the Galeguard set, so get three pieces of it and mix it with the See No Evil Headgear, making those dodges easier to perfect.
Unlike with our two other builds, there is a must-have Spirit on this one: Non-Able. You won’t be able to use its active effect after casting Spell Binder, but the Equipped Effect he gives is excellent, with no downside in our case, as we won’t need the mana for anything.
Transformations don’t really matter here as you won’t be using them.
