Despite the rough news of layoffs and the couple of massive AAA blunders that plagued 2024, the year came to an end on a positive note, mostly off the back of a seemingly endless list of exciting announcements of what was coming the next year.
Luckily for us, that year is already here, and massive releases seem to be piling on us faster than we can play through them. We curated a list of the ten most anticipated titles of the year, which will likely become some of the best releases of 2025.
A new contender has entered the action RPG scene. Eternal Strands, released on January 28, is blending physics-based magic, puzzle-solving, and intense combat in a stunning fantasy setting.
Developed by Yellow Brick Games, a small Canadian studio, Eternal Strands is the result of 5 years of hard work, and proof that the AA scene has never been better. There’s a Prologue Demo available, so you can go check it out for yourself, no strings attached.
What's better than an Obsidian sprawling first person RPG? Two, of course. The Outer Worlds 2 expands on everything that made the original great—hilarious writing, corporate dystopia satire, and freedom to shape your story.
Expect bigger planets, deeper faction choices, and an overall more expansive and polished version of the already great original. The Outer Worlds 2 will be out on PC and XBOX later this year.
Firaxis is back to steal hundreds of hours of your life. Civilization VII drops February 11 and brings new civs, AI diplomacy tweaks, and refined city-building mechanics, with a lot of other changes that were hinted at.
Considerably altering anything on a 33 year old franchise is always scary, but the latest entry in the Civilization series seems quite promising. The game will be playable on seemingly everything on release, including the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.
The brutally realistic medieval RPG is back. Warhorse Studios is giving us bigger cities, improved swordplay, and even deeper role playing elements in this sequel.
If you’ve ever wanted to live the life of a 15th-century warrior—complete with intense battles, political drama, and eating soup like it’s a survival mechanic—this is your game.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II picks up right where the first one left off, so we do recommend that you go through the original before tackling this beast of a game. Warhorse launched this title on February 4th, a week earlier than initially planned, so you can play it right now!
Obsidian Entertainment is stepping up with Avowed, a first-person RPG set in the world of Pillars of Eternity. Think Elder Scrolls but with Obsidian’s signature storytelling magic.
The Microsoft-owned studio showed its prowess in the genre (which should surprise no one given Fallout: New Vegas exists), and the fact that they’re giving us a new perspective into the fantastical world of Eora is excellent. Avowed truly has the potential to be one of the best games of 2025.
Releasing February 18, it brings spell-slinging combat, deep lore, and a sprawling, gorgeous canvas to explore, despite not being a true open world title.
Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise might be going through some turmoil, but the company seems to be laying all eggs in its basket. Shadows is bringing new stealth mechanics, dual protagonists, better combat, and the much requested feudal Japan setting when it drops March 20.
The multiple delays are worrisome, but they also give the devs more times to polish any rough edges and to give us a truly finished product. It does seem like Ubisoft’s fate will be heavily influenced by how AC: Shadows performs, we’ll see how that pans out for them.
DOOM Slayer goes medieval in the latest entry of the legendary franchise. iD Software is back, ready to give Bethesda Softworks a much needed win, and DOOM is looking better than ever.
This prequel to DOOM 2016 brings with it new weapons, new enemies, and flying dragons in a mesmerizing setting that mixes spaceships and space suits with Swords, Shields, and epic medieval capes.
Doom: The Dark Ages will arrive on PC, Xbox Series, and PS5 consoles on May 15.
Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds is ready to push your PC to its limits. Dropping February 28, it features seamless open-world hunts, smarter monsters, and a revamped tracking system. The best part? Customizable camps and enhanced AI mean every hunt will feel different.
PC players should beware though, the game is extremely heavy. Luckily, there’s a benchmark available on Steam, so you can try it out for yourself before spending any money.
Hideo Kojima’s first title post-Konami split was about as divisive as AAA titles can get, but its success is undeniable. Kojima Productions sold more than 19 million copies of the original, and Death Stranding 2 has everything to succeed.
The game is bigger, the story seems more confusing than ever, and the cast
filled with even more Hollywood stars than the original. Get ready to haul some more cargo and, as always, Keep On Keepin’ On!
The wait is over.
After years of leaks, speculation, and enough fan theories to fill a conspiracy board, Rockstar is finally delivering GTA VI. We’re heading back to Vice City, this time with dual protagonists, a ridiculously detailed open world, and more chaos than ever.
The crime sandbox is evolving, and if Rockstar’s track record means anything, expect next-level storytelling, insane attention to detail, and about a million Easter eggs.
Calling this the most anticipated game of 2025 is an understatement, as this will likely be the most anticipated game of the entire decade.
After all, Rockstar is following up on the second best-selling videogame of all time. The only information we know so far regarding the release date is that it will come out this year, but that’s enough for us to know that we’ll finish 2025, considering GTA VI one of the best games of the year.
