Team Spirit and OG Esports have been eliminated from BLAST Slam I in a well-fought-out series against their worthy adversaries, Heroic and Team Falcons, respectively. Both teams will have to play in another elimination series later today.
Let’s take a look at what transpired!
Heroic pulled off an incredible upset against a formidable Team Spirit in a full-blown best-of-three series. With their backs against the wall, and with others already counting them out, especially against Team Spirit, who were the favourites heading into the match-up, Heroic pulled out a masterclass performance.
After losing the first game, despite having a substantial lead, Heroic went back to the drawing board to draft the heroes they were most comfortable with. The second game saw them opt for a push-burst combination strategy with a surprise Slark pick.
The Slark became unstoppable with support from other heroes like Tiny, Lion, Beastmaster and Chen. Team Spirit couldn’t counter Chen’s army, and the subsequent push saw Heroic secure constant objectives and win the game, giving the South Americans their first win of the tournament.
The third game saw Heroic draft two odd picks, Tidehunter and Huskar, seemingly taking Team Spirit by surprise. The game lasted for an hour with constant early-game skirmishes but Heroic started to take the lead in the late game with 4nalog’s Huskar dominating Larl’s Sniper in the mid-lane.
Heroic won the series, despite fielding a stand-in with a last-minute player change.
The final series of the day between Team Falcons and OG Esports had all the ingredients to make it an absolute cinema. OG handily won the first game against Team Falcons, stomping them with a decisive 34:9 score and 23Savage’s Morphling going crazy.
The second game saw the Falcons bounce back after Malr1ne’s Timbersaw dominated alongside ATF’s Bristleback, crushing any hopes for OG to make a comeback. The drafting for OG was quite different this game with Dawnbreaker as one of the cores alongside Drow Ranger. Sadly, the risk didn’t pay off for the struggling European team.
The third game was the most interesting one out of the lot. Both teams were tied neck-to-neck in an insane battle, fulfilling the audience’s wish for entertainment. The game went well over the 75-minute mark, but unfortunately due to a server crash, the game had to be remade.
The game was lost because of the server crash and all attempts to restore the game failed, consuming a lot of time in the process. Both teams agreed to replay the final game with the same draft and the same starting items.
But the damage had already been done. OG Esports lost their momentum heading into the replay while Team Falcons won the remake, thus putting an end to the chaotic evening that saw both teams being awake late after midnight.
Team Falcons proceed to the next stage.
The second day of the BLAST Slam I playoffs will feature two more elimination series. Heroic and Team Falcons face Parivision and Gaimin Gladiators later today. Two teams will bid farewell to the tournament while the other two advance to another eliminator tomorrow.
Do you think Heroic and Team Falcons have gained momentum after a dismal start to their BLAST Slam journey? Or will Parivision and Gaimin Gladiators get the upper hand?
