Dota 2 Patch 7.39 has dramatically altered the game's meta, challenging players to master new strategies and hero combinations. While the dust is still settling, especially with the 7.39b gameplay update, certain heroes have emerged as top-tier picks for climbing the ranked ladder.
This monthly Dota 2 7.39b hero tier list provides a glimpse for players looking to increase their MMR in ranked games as we try to discover which heroes are ruling the meta. We’ll keep updating the article as new gameplay updates are released.
This tier list categorises Dota 2 Patch 7.39b heroes into multiple ranks based on their overall strength and effectiveness in the current meta.
Let’s dig right in!
Here’s the current list of Tier S Dota 2 heroes for Patch 7.39b:
Ursa: Ursa is a top hero pick in Dota 2 Patch 7.39b. He was virtually left untouched in the new gameplay update and received a slight buff on his Level 15 talent, which increased the Enrage Status Resistance from +20% to +25%. He is about inflicting damage, and his Facet “Grudge Bearer” does just that. His Innate “Maul” also helps the hero, providing bonus damage equal to a percentage of his current HP. He’s a scalable carry, has enough fuel in the tank to tank things, and can maul down the enemy because of his abilities – a perfect hero to help you increase the MMR in ranked games, especially in the current meta.
Templar Assassin: Templar Assassin is a first-pick/ban material hero in the current patch. She offers immense value in pub and pro games alike because of her damage output, manoeuvrability, ambiguity, and scalability. She’s a menace to deal with in the right hands and can single-handedly destroy the enemy without dropping a sweat, provided she builds the right items and the gameplay is executed properly.
Wraith King: Wraith King has received some buffs in patch 7.39b, which makes him a strong hero in the current meta. Vampiric Spirit no longer freezes the Reincarnation cooldown when Wraith Delay is active – effectively meaning that WK can walk into fights when his ultimate is on a 5-7 seconds cooldown timer, thus having a second life ready. It also allows him to initiate skirmishes early and bait opponents with Wraith Delay. Wraith King is a straightforward hero to play, and might just fit in the perfect setup.
Shadow Shaman: Shadow Shaman’s Massive Serpent Ward facet got buffed in patch 7.39b. He’s extremely viable with both facets, Massive Serpent Ward or Chicken Fingers, and offers a lot of lockdown potential with Hex and Shackles. He can also deal magical damage with Ether Shock, which is a bonus in ranked games, and can easily take towers with his ultimate. Shadow Shaman is also quite strong in the laning stage, and can help his allies dominate the lane.
Kunkka: Kunkka is quietly cementing himself as a top hero pick in the current meta. He received a new facet, Grog Blossom, that applies a buff to Kunkka himself with Ghostship’s Admiral’s Rum upon using “X Marks the Spot.” It allows him to be tanky, the spell can be used before the start of a team fight, and can apply the rum against his ultimate Ghostship. He has good damage in the early game, and Tidebringer ability allows him to last-hit creeps efficiently with increased damage after a brief interval. Also, he only needs starting items to make an impact.
Here’s the current list of Tier A Dota 2 heroes for Patch 7.39b:
Doom: Doom is quickly becoming a staple in patch 7.39b as a core hero. He scales well into the late game with his Devour ability, offering him bonus gold and experience, has Scorched Earth to rapidly heal himself and chase enemies, or escape from them, and Infernal Blade to deal damage. His ultimate, Doom, effectively renders an enemy unit worthless in team fights, cursing them with silence and dealing tons of damage.
Lina: Lina has always been a top hero pick in any meta. She deals an insane amount of magical damage, thanks to her abilities, and is a pure “right-click” damage dealer, once again thanks to her abilities. Dragon Slave and Fiery Soul are two spells that complement each other, allowing Lina to farm creep waves efficiently. She has a stun to set up team fights and a lethal ultimate, Laguna Blade, that can instantly kill an enemy hero below a certain threshold. She’s definitely a meta pick in patch 7.39b, worthy of increasing MMR in ranked games.
Silencer: Silencer’s utility in the current patch is underrated. Besides his Global Silence ultimate, which can literally disrupt a team fight, Silencer is becoming a top-tier support hero. Arcane Curse, Glaives of Wisdom and Last Word deal a good amount of magical damage to the enemy heroes. He also permanently steals intelligence by killing a hero, thus increasing his right-click damage. Silencer is of great use in the laning phase, helping his core to stabilise and harass the enemy.
Terrorblade: Terrorblade’s potential as a carry hero is known to everyone. In the right hands, he is a weapon of mass destruction and can deal a massive amount of damage to the enemy team. Terrorblade has become one of the top hero picks in Dota 2 Patch 7.39b because of the lack of other alternatives. He is a farm-oriented hero, and the current state of the game has plenty of options to farm effectively, especially in Terrorblade’s case. Metamorphosis helps in farming, securing objectives and winning team fights.
Dark Seer: Dark Seer’s slow rise in the new patch is becoming instrumental for teams looking to draft a stable, tanky and utility offlaner. He’s the perfect hero to provide support for the team, building items like Pipe of Insight, Guardian Greaves, etc. He’s also adept at initiating team fights, and is a front liner for his allies, making it all the more difficult for enemies to go past him.
Here’s the current list of Tier B Dota 2 heroes for Patch 7.39b:
Beastmaster: Beastmaster received nerfs in the latest patch. In the previous meta, he was a top pick for an offlaner, boasting a high win rate. However, despite being nerfed in the new patch, he remains a viable pick because he adds a lot of value to the team composition. He’s primarily picked in aggressive drafts to secure towers quickly and apply pressure on the enemy.
Oracle: Oracle is a solid support hero pick in the current meta. He’s easy to play and features a lot in pro games and pubs alike, making him a go-to pick in the Patch 7.39b hero tier list. A true hidden gem in plain sight.
Magnus: Magnus’s prowess is known to almost every Dota 2 player. The sheer value which he brings to the table is priceless. He deals damage, can set up team fights perfectly, and is a great initiator. Despite receiving a few nerfs in the new patch, Magnus is still a force to be reckoned with, especially in Patch 7.39b.
Tiny: Tiny is a flex pick, donning multiple hats at the same time. He can be the team’s carry, or he can be a support. The damage output he provides is immense, and can single-handedly turn the tide of a game. While not a first-pick material, teams often opt for Tiny in pro games. As for pubs, he’s a celebrity and a not-so-hidden gem.
Axe: Axe has a tradition of being a meta hero when it matters the most. For a while, he vanished from the meta, but Dota 2 Patch 7.39b is slowly marking his resurgence. He’s a natural frontline tanker, great initiator, damage dealer and good hero to make life miserable for the enemy team.
Here’s the current list of Tier C Dota 2 heroes for Patch 7.39b:
Batrider: Batrider’s resurgence is endearing to witness. He received buffs in the new patch, and teams are drafting him in pro games as well. Sticky Napalm, along with Firefly, scales his farming potential really well, dishing out a decent amount of damage. Despite being picked as a support, he can farm his items really quickly and make an impact in games, thus making him a viable pick in the current meta.
Windranger: Windranger’s prowess is second to none. Her Shackleshot provides a stun, can deal damage with Powershot, run like the wind with Windrun and latch onto a target with Focus Fire. Once again, she’s a situational pick and is one of the better heroes in the monthly hero tier list for patch 7.39b.
Monkey King: Monkey King is one of the Dota 2 heroes who didn’t receive any nerf in Patch 7.39b. He was actually buffed and also received a new facet. He’s the master of chaos and can be played as a support or as a core. Not usually preferred in pro games, he’s an extremely situational pick and can surprise the enemy team.
Naga Siren: Naga Siren is buffed in this patch. Her base agility and damage have been marginally increased. Deluge Facet now deals increased damage but reduces movement speed. It no longer reduces the status resistance of an enemy, but an Aghanim’s Scepter upgrade on Ensnare applies a break to the target. The cooldown of her ultimate, Song of the Siren, is decreased, making her an ideal support hero in the current meta.
