The ice has been broken, and we have gotten ourselves a new BLAST SLAM champion. Team Liquid has decisively defeated Natus Vincere in the grand finals of BLAST SLAM VI Malta to secure the championship.
Team Liquid’s journey at BLAST SLAM VI Malta was interesting to witness. They secured the third seed in the group stage, narrowly denying themselves a direct entry to the semi-finals. They started in the Play-Ins and handily defeated GamerLegion to advance to the quarter-finals.
They fought Team Falcons in an intense best-of-five series that came right down to the wire. Both teams exchanged heavy blows in a bid to advance to the semi-finals and inch a step closer to victory. But Team Liquid had the last laugh, defeating Team Falcons in the fifth game and setting up a clash with OG.
Team Liquid continued the momentum against OG in the semi-final, crushing the Southeast Asian team in straight games. However, the third game lasted 85 minutes, with OG opting for the classic SEA-style draft by selecting Ancient Apparition, Viper, and Tiny. But Team Liquid didn’t let this derail their momentum, and ultimately punched their ticket to the grand final.
The grand final clash was set up between Team Liquid and Natus Vincere. Natus Vincere also secured a direct slot in the semi-final thanks to their group-stage performance and battled in a thrilling best-of-five series against Team Yandex.
This series also went down to the wire, but the Ukrainian organisation emerged as the second grand finalist for BLAST SLAM VI Malta.
But it was Team Liquid’s day once again. Natus Vincere was unable to fend off Liquid’s lethal attacks in the entire series, except in game two, and lost all but one game, averaging 32 minutes. While commendable, it wasn’t enough for Natus Vincere to cross the finish line.
With this victory, Team Liquid cemented itself as the new BLAST SLAM VI Malta champions – breaking the ice (right Tundra?) in the process.
In the meantime, BLAST SLAM VII: Copenhagen has been announced. See you there!
