Teams are in full preparation mode for BLAST SLAM VI Malta, as they all vie to change the status quo and challenge Tundra Esports for their throne. Amidst all the chaos, we had the opportunity to catch up with Melchior “Seleri” Hillenkamp for an exclusive interview.
Seleri talks about MOUZ’s preparations for the tournament, the fatigue that seemingly set in after playing a string of qualifiers and tournaments, which affected their performance, and their aim to reach the finals of BLAST SLAM VI Malta, as well as Largo’s addition to Captains Mode.
MOUZ has been inconsistent in recent tournaments, especially after the high at PGL Wallachia 6. Do you see that changing at BLAST Slam 6?
I don’t think it’s as bad as it looks.
After PGL, we played BLAST and finished 3rd–4th. While it is always nice to reach the finals of a tournament or win, getting 3rd–4th isn’t terrible either. As for our performance at DreamLeague, we were honestly a bit burnt out, and that was the last tournament we played.
Since then, we’ve warmed up again by playing two qualifiers, which we’ve won. I believe we’re in good shape now, and hopefully we’ll be at our best by the time BLAST SLAM VI starts.
Looking at your results: top 4 at BLAST Slam 4 and 5, winning PGL Wallachia 6, bombing out of one DreamLeague qualifier, then winning two qualifiers – it’s clearly not a linear curve. What challenges are causing these ups and downs?
The biggest challenge has been fatigue because at the start of the season, we had to play every single qualifier, and we qualified for everything, so we ended up playing every tournament. That was exhausting. We’ve had a small break now, got back into shape through qualifiers, and we’ll have another short break before BLAST.
That helps a lot.
Even if you understand exactly how you want to play, when you’re tired, you just can’t execute properly. I think we’re getting back into shape now, but the next step is pushing further. We’ve been consistently placing high, but we don’t just want another top 4-6 finish; we want to reach the finals and win.
What kind of playstyle do you want MOUZ to be known for?
I want us to be known as a high-pressure team. We’re good at comebacks, and we don’t need to win quickly, but we also win a lot of games by applying nonstop pressure. High pressure is hard to deal with; it forces opponents to make mistakes. That’s how I liked to play in my old teams, and that’s what I want us to focus on whenever we have the opportunity.
Since the team’s formation, what is the one thing that still makes you believe in this roster?
It’s the people, and how we work together. Whenever I’m in doubt, I just look at my teammates. Also, playing with Crystallis makes it even better because he, too, is from the Netherlands. Playing with someone from your own country is always special and motivating.

What can we expect from MOUZ at BLAST SLAM VI?
If we start strong, I think we’ll have a good run. Historically, we’ve done well at BLAST. We also really want to make it to Disneyland because this time it’s in Europe, unlike the last two, which were long trips. That is definitely motivating.
Speaking of BLAST, how confident are you about facing Tundra Esports?
I won’t lie, it would be nice not to face them until later in the tournament. We’ve played them twice, lost twice, and then they went on to win the tournament both times. That said, it would be fun to play them again.
The last time, we didn’t even have a coach, and we were already getting tired. I think we’d be in much better shape now. A rematch would be exciting, and maybe the third time’s the charm, right?
How has Patch 7.40 evolved since its release, leading upto the latest update (7.40c)?
I haven’t played a game since the latest update, but to see Largo in Captains Mode is pretty exciting. I have zero games on him so far, but I’m definitely looking forward to trying him out. He’s a very cool hero.
Are there any heroes you feel have become less useful (nerfed) in patch 7.40c? And please don’t say Clinkz.
Don’t worry, it’s not Clinkz. On the contrary, I think Treant Protector is pretty bad to play against right now. The tree mechanic is too strong. You get 50 gold for cutting trees, but you still need sentries, and you don’t have infinite sentries.
Feels a bit broken, doesn’t it?
Maybe if Treant is in the enemy team, the other team should get infinite sentries; that sounds fair to me. Anyways, jokes apart, I’m not sure, but something needs adjustment on that front.
Final question: anything you’d like to say before we wrap up?
Not really, just thanks.
BLAST SLAM VI begins on February 3rd, 2026. Stay tuned to our socials for more interviews and tournament updates in the coming days.
