The post-TI roster shuffle is taking no prisoners, including Team Liquid, the winners of The International 2024 (TI13). They have parted ways with its TI-winning captain 33, a decision that was initially shared on X but later removed.
Neta “33” Shapira joined Team Liquid as a replacement for Zai who decided to take an indefinite break from Dota 2. He became the team’s captain and gradually shaped Liquid’s playstyle over the following months.
Balancing the demands of captaincy with his primary role as a core (offlane) player proved to be a difficult task, at least in the beginning. Under his leadership, Liquid broke their second-place curse and won Elite League Season 2. This victory served as a turning point, propelling them towards their ultimate goal.
Team Liquid didn’t necessarily start its The International 2024 campaign as one of the favourites, but went in as a strong contender. They dominated the group stage and were unbeaten in the playoffs. Carrying their momentum into the grand finals, Liquid dominated Gaimin Gladiators in the grand final to claim the TI13 championship.
The news of 33 leaving Team Liquid, the reigning TI champions, sent ripples through the Dota 2 community. Many were surprised by the decision, with some praising 33's bold move while others expressed scepticism.
However, a short while after the official announcement, Team Liquid took down the post on X (formerly Twitter) without any explanation, increasing the fans' curiosity. There’s no need to think otherwise than 33’s departure being official, although things can change anytime.
