Neta “33” Shapira’s departure from Team Liquid was announced a few hours back, sending ripples across the Dota 2 community. Many were surprised with the news of his departure, especially after winning The International 2024 (TI13).
Initial confusion over Team Liquid's deleted farewell post for 33 has been cleared up. The talented offlaner is set to join Tundra Esports, a team with whom 33 won his first-ever TI.
33 returns to his roots, joining Tundra Esports, a place he once called home. His departure from Team Liquid was driven by his ambition to assemble his own team, with his own people, and after communicating the same to Liquid, the transfer was approved (shortly after Riyadh Masters 2024).
As captain of Team Liquid, the skilled offlaner seamlessly balanced his leadership duties with his in-game core role, inspiring his teammates with his unwavering work ethic and professionalism. While he was happy at Team Liquid, 33 felt a growing sense of regret if he did not pursue the chance to build his own team.
“We had a long conversation about his future here and decided it would be best for both parties if he was able to explore what that [building his own team] could look like. We assured 33 early on that Team Liquid would always be player-friendly and help honour his requests,” said Blitz, head coach of Team Liquid.
Nonetheless, 33’s decision to join Tundra Esports is not only a bold move but also incredibly exciting, especially since the official communication mentions that he’s looking to build a roster from the ground up. Tundra is down to three players with Topson retiring and Pure and Ramzes’ loan tenure ending.
It’ll be interesting to see how the story unfolds from here and if 33’s decision was wise or not. Stay tuned to BLAST for the latest roster updates.
