A new update to CS2 has dropped and it's a big one.
Or, it's at least the prelude to a big one.
With the Perfect World Shanghai Major on the horizon, it was always very unlikely we'd actually see any huge updates right before the event kicks off, but Valve has teased that a massive one might be on the way very soon.
CS2 players, pros, analysts, and everyone in between have been frustrated with the competitive map pool for a long time. Whether it's Dust2, Vertigo, Inferno, or somehow Mirage, people are very vocally dissatisfied with the map pool and their options when loading into a game.
To address this issue we see people asking for Cache, Cobblestone, or even Tuscan, but most commonly the map people ask for is Train - and it seems those people may soon get there wish.
Here's why:
Typically, when Valve upload patch notes to their Counter-Strike Twitter account, it looks a little something like this:
However, with the most recent update, the tweet was different. Instead, the caption was this:
We know this may seem insignificant and like they were just trying to add some personality into their social posts, but hear us out, this could have some big implications.
You see, this isn't the first time they've used the wording "back, and better than ever" in a tweet, they've done so before, when they added Train to CS:GO way back in 2014.
With that said, could we see a map pool change following the Major? There's plenty of changes coming in 2025, would one more hurt?
We think not.
Well, as long as it's Vertigo we're saying goodbye to.
Of course, the actual update we got is also important, and we also think it's one that won't disappoint.
There's been some welcome changes to lag compensation, another change to the game that should hopefully lead to it feeling more consistent and prevent the complaints about gunplay and servers.
A big bug has also been removed, players will no longer be able to defuse the bomb from any height. Thank God.
