Although Vitality were the dominant force in the first half of 2025, they have so far failed to lift a trophy since the return from the player break.
Three consecutive top four finishes suggests that they are still an elite level team, but disappointing performances in their losses have fans worried - something that mezii says doesn't extend to the team themselves.
Prior to BLAST Open Season 2, and with the LAN finals taking place in his home country, we spoke to the King of UK CS to discuss Vitality's start to the season and what his goals are now that he's won everything there is to win in CS.
The start of the season hasn’t featured the same level of success as last season, how are you feeling about it? Is it just taking you guys some time to warm up?
We always knew it would be hard to replicate the success we had in the first part of the season and coming out of the player break it can be hard to continue the momentum. I feel we are improving with each game/tournament but yeah, it's taking a little longer to get warmed up and back on the same page.
The losses have been concerning in nature and there’s been some close games too, are you concerned about what you’ve shown in those games?
We are not concerned, we know its not been a great showing so far and especially the way we have been playing that has been not so well connected but we know we have the answers and the level we showed last season doesn’t just disappear and never come back, it’s just taking a bit more time to get back to this level but I am confident in the team we can get back to winning ways.
Photo: Stephanie LingdrenDo you think that people are just overreacting because of how well you did last season?
I would say that is a factor, but it is normal after how successful last season was, it was pretty much perfect. We know we can play much better as well.
What will it take to get back to the level from before the player break? Is that even possible?
I would say it is definitely possible for us to get back to that level, I think some other teams have improved as well but I know we can get back to that level or at least very close it just can take some time coming out of the player break and its something we are continuously working hard to get back to.
With Spirit seemingly improving at every chance they get, are you concerned about them being able to beat you on a firepower level where they might not have been able to in the first half of the year?
I wouldn’t say so. They are definitely improving and have incredible firepower in their team but we have a pretty good record against them and we can 100% match them in firepower so we are always confident going up against Spirit.
You’re about to play BLAST Open London, what would it mean to make it to the LAN and get to play in front of the UK crowd again?
It would be amazing, there aren’t many chances at all to play in front of a home crowd so of course it would mean a lot to qualify for the LAN and have the UK support. Even though we were not successful at the last BLAST London it was such a great experience to play there.
Photo: Stephanie LindgrenDo you think it will be different now that you’ve won a Major and achieved something that no other UK player has?
I’m not sure, the support has always been great from the UK scene and I’m super grateful for that.
Speaking of, now that you’ve won everything there is to win in CS, what’s next in terms of your goals?
Winning never gets boring and even though the first season was crazy and we accomplished almost everything, me and the team are still hungry to continue that and we want to win even more and really cement our legacy and a Team Vitality era.
