G2 proved once again at ESL Pro League Season 20 that they are a fierce force following the additions of malbsMd and Snax.
Losing only to the eventual winners NAVI in the semi-finals, they showed that they are very close to once again adding their name to a trophy as they continue to grow with their new lineup.
Ahead of their opening match against FaZe here at BLAST Premier Fall Final, we spoke to huNter- about the development of the team and his thoughts on CS2 a year after its release.
You're kicking off your time at Fall Final against FaZe, how are you feeling about it?
They're a really good team, an experienced team, they've been together for a long time.
Lately, and ever since NiKo joined G2, we don't struggle to match up against them, but I think they will be hungry to beat us and to get the revenge for a couple of wins we have got against them recently.
It won't be an easy game, but it's always a fun game against them. We'll give our best to beat them, but that's what we always need to do to beat FaZe.
How are you feeling about the team now that you've had some time with malbsMd and Snax?
I feel really good, we have a great team and I'm very happy with their additions.
We've had good results so far when you take into consideration the amount of time we've had together. EWC we were second, Pro League we lost to NAVI in the semi-finals, a solid BLAST Groups and Cologne was good too, so, we have more experience together and we've been through good and bad so this event is a real test for us.
I think we'll see where we're standing after this event, but I think we feel very good in the team.
How are you feeling about your own individual levels at the moment?
Overall, since CS2 came out, I've had a lot of ups and downs and I haven't played how I am supposed to play.
However, since the beginning of this season, I would say I've improved a lot and my numbers have gone up as well. I'm happy because of that, but there's a lot more that I can give to the team, so I'm trying to improve every day and I'm trying to work a lot on myself.
I will get to where I was in CS:GO very soon.
Do you think the changes have helped your form or is it more individual?
It's a bit of both, I changed some things individually in my mind and some of my routines, but the Snax and malbsMd additions also changed some things and made me more hungry to win again.
We spoke to NiKo about how CS2 is and he was very critical about it, but what's your thoughts about it considering you say you have struggled since the release?
It's very tough to compare, CS:GO at the end was a perfect game so it was very tough to compete with that game. It really couldn't be better.
And then CS2 came out with a lot of bad things, a lot of bugs, a lot of differences, and while it's getting better, we're not even close to what we had in CS:GO. They need to fix a lot of things to make the game better both in terms of watching and in terms of playing.
I'm not a big fan of it yet, but I think it has the potential to be really good. They just need to work faster and smarter if they want to keep more people and more kids coming to play the game and even bring back some old players.
Do you think CS2 has the potential to be better than CS:GO?
It's not even close right now, it could be maybe in I don't even know how many years if they start to be more serious and release more critical updates, but for now, it's not even close.
CS:GO at the end was a perfect game, and while CS2 has better graphics, when you start shooting or moving it's not even close.
A lot of pros seem to like CS2 smokes, would CS:GO have been a better game with CS2 smokes?
Yeah, I was thinking about that now actually, why couldn't they have just added the smokes to CS:GO and just keep it? But no, they had to make the new game [laughs].
The smokes are better, of course, and breaking them with the HE, I don't know if it's good but we got used to it so it's fine. Everything else, outside of the graphics, CS:GO was a lot better.
