It wasn't as dominant as the last final they played against MOUZ, but Vitality still managed to get the win at BLAST Open Lisbon after a thrilling 3-2 game.
Their third consecutive tournament win in a row, Vitality are now looking like by far the best team in the world after winning IEM Katowice, ESL Pro League Season 21, and BLAST Open Lisbon.
After the final, we caught up with mezii to discuss the game, their dominance, and the strength of having Ancient as a permaban.
That's your third straight championship win, how are you feeling?
Pretty good I can't lie. We wanted to make sure we keep improving each year and each event, the addition of ropz has been great but overall, having this month away and making the most of these tournaments feels great.
There's a lot of talk about the strength of Ancient as your permaban, how much do you think it's contributing to the current dominance?
It definitely helps, a lot of the teams are really strong on Ancient. But it also helps that we've improved our Anubis as well, a lot of teams tried to punish pick Anubis against us this event and it didn't work out for them.
MOUZ put up a much bigger fight today than in the last final you played against each other, do you think that's a result of having played a few games against each other?
It's gotten closer each time we've played them and this one could have gone either way. We came back a bit on Mirage, we didn't deserve to win, but we were close. On the next map, Dust2, we should have won, but it was a close game.
We know it's always going to be close against MOUZ. We've played them so many times and they're going to want revenge. It was always going to be back and forth, but I'm happ we could close it out.
Is there any concern with the wins and the form right now that you could run out of steam before the Major?
No, of course we're tired now and it's been long, but we've been away for a whole month. Going from tournament to tournament is tough, but what's great about this group is that we're constantly trying to evolve and improve, we're not satisfied with being number one, we want to be dominant.
Any plans to celebrate tonight?
There's definitely going to be a few drinks. I've got an early flight, but I'm looking forward to it and looking forward to getting home.
