Ah, upsets. Who doesn't love an upset?
There were two really big upsets in the round of 16, leaving us with a very unexpected final eight, but there could have been plenty more as some of the world's best teams were pushed far harder than they would've expected to be.
Some teams will have to go back to the drawing board now, though, with those upsets seemingly derailing their seasons before they've really begun.
Although paiN looked great in their opening match versus BetBoom, they fell flat on their face against the AWP-less HEROIC. piriajr was a bright spot for the Brazilians, but nilo was in stellar form, helping his team through to the LAN finals with a 1.48 rating.
Liquid then opened the second series of the day with a weak showing against Gentle Mates on Inferno, but turned that around on Mirage thanks to a captain's performance on Mirage and dominated Nuke off the back of solid showings out of both NAF and NertZ.
Game three saw GamerLegion take on Aurora, with GamerLegion claiming the bounty on the Turkish squad's head as they continued their strong start to life with Snax at the helm. hypex had a great series - he closed out the 2-1 win with a 55-37 statline to his name.
The final game of the day saw Monte look to snatch another bounty as they took on Falcons. However, unlike in the game against NAVI, Monte just couldn't get through. Falcons abused them Outside on Nuke, and then dominated Mirage, with m0NESY looking dangerous throughout as he posted a 1.75 rating.
Photo: Stephanie LindgrenDay two began with an upset as JAme's PARIVISION wiped the floor with Astralis. We'll give the newly international team the benefit of the doubt seeing as they have two new players, but Christ, PARIVISION look like they could go all the way and win Bounty. zweih was unbeliavable (again), posting a 1.92 rating across two solid maps.
That was followed up by zweih's former team, Spirit, taking on the Ukranians of Inner Circle. donk (of course) was dominant again, but he was flanked by tN1R and sh1ro who also put up impressive numbers as Spirit made getting to Malta look easy.
Game three saw Vitality take on FaZe-killers EYEBALLERS, with the Swedish team threatening to make another giant sweat as they pushed map one, Anubis, to double OT. Vitality held their composure, though, and closed out the series with a 13-8 win on Overpass.
The final game of the day was FUT vs FURIA, with the young FUT team almost managing to take down FalleN and co. after a dominant display on Overpass. They pushed FURIA on all three maps, but in the end it was molodoy who was the difference maker, his 27-15 dominance on Dust2 was enough to see FURIA claim the decider with a 13-11 win.
