We're well into the nitty gritty of BLAST Premier Fall Groups 2023 now, and today saw the Consolidation Finals of both Group A and Group B.
Two games deciding who would fall straight down into the gauntlet and who would get a chance to qualify for Fall Final from the Group Final games, we'll start our recap with the opening game of the day, Complexity versus NIP.
A rematch of their opening game, Group A's Consolidation Final was fought between the Swedes of NIP and the Americans of Complexity. A reverse result of the first time around, NIP managed to overcome Complexity.
Map one, NIP's own pick of Mirage, was a confident performance from the hampus-led squadron, they closed out the map 16-9. All five members of the team went positive, completing shutting down a Complexity team in which no man could even muster a neutral KD.
Complexity bounced back on their own pick of Overpass 16-7. Their strongest map, it was hallzerk and EliGE who once again were the stars as Complexity dominated. floppy also had a good game, much needed after his recent run of poor form.
On the third map, Nuke, Complexity looked like they would once again overcome NIP in three. 15-11 up, they were in the driving seat, but it seems like EliGE still has some work to do in order to prevent them from choking. He was the star with 35 kills, but as headtr1ck and k0nfig both got 33 of their own, NIP took the map and series 22-20.
Two teams with new cores, both BIG and NAVI have experienced ups and downs so far at Fall Groups. A series that wouldn't need all three maps to decide the outcome, the formerly Ukrainian squadron would take down BIG in two.
Seeing as NAVI looked shaky on Ancient against Astralis, BIG would have been confident with their decision to pick the map, although they would quickly realised that was a mistake once iM got firing. One of the stars of the BLAST.tv Paris Major, he put the hurt on BIG as he ended the 16-11 game with a 31-18 statline.
The second map, Mirage, was far closer, but BIG were still unable to even force overtime as the GOAT of CS:GO, s1mple, found himself back at the top of the scoreboard. The AWPer ended the game with 22 kills, massively outmatching his opposite number, mantuu, who could only manage 10. Krimbo was still strong, however, he equalled s1mple's frag count but was powerless to help his team win the map.
