With group C still needing it's second round of matches to be played, today featured a Winners match between Liquid and FaZe, and a losers match between G2 and OG.
Two new teams facing off against two of the only teams to not making changes, would it be consistency or unpredictability that prevailed?
The Winners match was played first, so let's start there.
The only game of the day to need all three maps to decide the victor, it was FaZe who got off to an early advantage as they won Liquid's map pick, Inferno, 16-11.
A map that is often T sided in pro play, it was the CT side of FaZe that allowed them to record the victory, an 11-4 CT half, it left Liquid with a mountain to climb to get back into the game on the second half. Twistzz was the star, and as he continued his strong game into the second half, Liquid fought valiantly, but it wasn't enough for them to force an overtime.
Liquid did however bounce back by winning FaZe's map pick, Mirage. A 16-14 scoreline, it was deceptively one sided as FaZe had to attempt to mount a comeback to even make the game go the distance. Liquid gave us a sign of things to come on their defence, with YEKINDAR opting for a secondary AWP for the majority of the half. Despite this, it was their primary AWPer who shined brightest, oSee's 27-16 performance helped Liquid get it over the line.
The least competitive map of the series, map three was to be fought on Ancient. Liquid were absolutely dominant on their CT side, consistently shutting down FaZe's offense as Patsi racked up 20 kills by himself. A 14-1 half, FaZe were powerless to get back into the game and it concluded with a 16-8 scoreline.
While G2 may have looked quite flat in their opening game versus Liquid, they were anything but in their game today against OG. A quick 2-0, they won the series with two 16-6 scorelines.
OG picked Ancient, but given how they all performed, they'll be left scratching their heads as to why. nexa only managed to muster up a pitiful seven kills, while only k1to could manage even a neutral KD as he finished 16-16. m0NESY had a good time though, his 30-9 performance flipped the script on a men against boys narrative.
The young sniper kept his good form going into Inferno, although it was jks who eventually top fragged. All of OG were once again all negative, but at least nexa can take solace in the fact that he managed to double his kill count from map one.
A brutal drubbing by G2, they'll be hoping this victory is enough to provide them with the momentum to take down FaZe in the consolidation final.
