We brought you six BO3 games today, each having something on the line. Be it elimination, or progression, the pressure cooker was on high for every single series today.
Let's start by recapping the teams who went home.
Complexity dismantled by Team Liquid
After a solid map one showing from Team Liquid, they moved into Complexity's map pick on the CT side of Overpass; and immediately took over.
Complexity picked up zero T rounds against their national brethren, leaving them exiting paris in ignominy, while Team Liquid can point to a strong recovery having been 0-2 in the group, and 0-1 down against Fluxo.
Even nitr0 was surprised at how easy it was: "I was expecting us to win but not in that fashion, I feel we had control on both maps the entire game. It's really nice to have that kind of map in a big tournament, overall I wasn't expecting it to be that clean but I'm happy it was."
Elsewhere, Monte lived to see another day after cutting down TheMongolz in two close maps. It was a hard-fought win, but a win nonetheless, powered by the indomitable BOROS.
TheMongolz sadly will be leaving us, unable to leave the lasting mark they've made on so many events in the last 12 months.
Woro2k wasn't getting too far ahead of himself; when asked how he felt after winning a huge 1v4, he responded with "good. Winning the round, winning the full eco is good".
Indeed it is.
The third team to depart was OG, who struggled against a scary looking GamerLegion team. acoR was once again at the top of the scoreboard, backed up by siuhy and iM.
acoR too was understated, though, giving a lot of credit to his team and the fact that "everyone's on the same page".
"Most teams set goals for the Major, but that puts so much pressure on you as a team."
For OG, it's a devastating result.
FaZe came out unscathed as they sailed past FORZE and into the next stage. FORZE gave them a bit of a scare on Overpass, coming back from a 15-3 deficit to push it close, but FaZe found their extra gear to close it out.
FORZE will, of course, have one more shot tomorrow, against GamerLegion.
ropz told BLAST.tv he was "relieved" as he "didn't want to go 2-3 again!", but claims he wasn't worried about it, even if the "thoughts go through [his] head sometimes".
Apeks pushed past paiN in an important clash for both teams thanks to a vintage performance from both jkaem and STYKO, as the experience really started to show up in the big moments.
paiN too will look to qualify tomorrow, as they play Monte in an intriguing one.
"Of course it feels amazing" kyxsan told BLAST.tv, "we always believed because we played against some tier one teams and had close games, even when we lost it was close, so we always believed in ourselves."
NIP closed out the day by cleanly taking down Grayhound to qualify for the next stage, in atypically comfortable fashion for the Swedish org.
REZ was once more a problem, combined with the mercurial gifts of k0nfig, as they proved too much for the Aussies.
"We got fucking smacked around a little bit" was Liazz' somewhat brutal breakdown of the game. "We were very nervous... for a lot of the guys it's our first qualifying match".
Fortunately, they'll have another chance tomorrow, then, against Team Liquid.
