Counter-Strike 2 has received yet another update from Valve, and this one is a big one.
Ever since the release of the game, fans have been clamouring for the return of community maps, and they now have their wish as Valve has announced the workshop is "open for business".
There have also been updates to those pesky birds and decoy grenades, so let's break down the changes from the latest update.
Community maps have always been a fundamental part of Counter-Strike. In the past, popular community maps have been added to the game as part of operations, and people like FMPONE have built their legend by creating some of the most awesome maps in the game.
Cache, Santorini, and Subzero are all FMPONE creations that started as community maps, with Cache even making it into the official competitive map pool back in 2014.
Community maps also saw their communities develop around them, with surf, kz, and 1v1s all becoming key parts of the Counter-Strike eco-system.
Not just that, but community maps are also incredible tools to help warm up, as many maps designed to help people do so have been created and implemented into the game.
Let's be honest for a moment, decoy grenades used to be almost useless.
No one worth their salt in-game has ever fallen for one, and they're not even worth the $50 they cost on a pistol round.
That might all be about to change, though, as decoy grenades will now aesthetically interact with smoke grenades.
Confused what that means? Allow us to explain.
Decoy grenades now give off light when they are inside smokes, and also mildly dissipate the smoke as if someone was shooting inside it, meaning you could potentially fake out your position to draw someone's crosshair away.
To be honest, it probably still won't work in high-level play, but for all of us Gold Novas, try it out in your next Premier game.
It might be a minor detail, but one of our biggest frustrations with CS2 so far is the birds and random particle effects that look like utility being thrown across our screens.
Too often have we been holding angles with AWPs and been distracted by this, or worse, called a bad rotation because of it, and thankfully the new update will see an end to that as they have now been removed.
Good riddance.
