Last year, CS:GO enjoyed its final Major as we lit up the City of Love at the BLAST.tv Paris Major. This year, Counter-Strike 2 will experience its first Major as PGL host the PGL CS2 Major 2024 in Copenhagen.
As the first Major championship in CS2 it is sure to be a landmark event, so let's go over all the key details you will need to know for when the time comes.
Fans of BLAST Premier events will be very familiar with the venue for the first CS2 Major, as it is taking place in Copenhagen's Royal Arena.
A premium venue for Counter-Strike, we have made it our home in recent years, and recently held our first-ever CS2 event there, BLAST Premier Fall Final 2023.
Vitality were the victors when BLAST Premier took to the Royal Arena stage, but who will be the victors when PGL take the stage for the first CS2 Major?
The first CS2 Major will kick off in Copenhagen on March 17th, starting with the newly-renamed Opening Stage. Sixteen teams will battle it out during that stage, with only eight of them advancing to the Elimination Stage.
The Elimination Stage of the CS2 Major Copenhagen will begin on March 21st. Another sixteen-team Swiss bracket, the eight teams advancing from the Opening Stage, will meet the eight best-placed teams from the RMR event for a chance to play in the Playoff Stage.
The first-ever CS2 Major Playoff Stage begins on March 28th. In the Playoff Stage, the final eight teams will battle it out for a chance to become the first CS2 Major champions.
There are currently no teams qualified for the first CS2 Major in 2024. Before the Major takes place, those teams will be decided by the RMR events that will take place later this month and at the start of March.
There are four RMR events, that will take place on the following days:
The two European RMR events will both have sixteen teams in them. Eight teams will qualify from each event, with the highest-placed teams advancing straight to the Elimination Stage of the CS2 Major in Copenhagen. Those teams will also be joined by one team from the American RMR.
The American RMR will then have four extra qualification spots on offer for the sixteen teams in attendance, all of which are for the Opening Stage.
The Asia-Pacific RMR event will decide the final two places at the first CS2 Major. The smallest RMR event with just eight teams in attendance, it is sure to be a close affair.
Although teams taking part in the first CS2 Major in 2024 will be eager to get their hands on the sticker money from the event, they'll be even more eager to get their hands on the prize pool.
A $1,250,000 prize pool, the winners of the first CS2 Major. will receive a whopping $500,000.
Oh, and they'll get a direct invite to BLAST Premier World Final 2024.
