It's Counter-Strike awards season, and it's time for us at BLAST to look back at 2023 and celebrate the best of 2023.
For our 2023 awards, we have eight categories coming your way. We started off with the best Counter-Strike team and player of 2023, and now we'll be continuing with the best Counter-Strike single-tournament performance of 2023.
To find our winners for each award, we have enlisted the help of six of our most knowledgeable talent members and the BLAST.tv editorial team will have a vote, too.
"I think ZywOo's Major performance in Paris is fitting. He was playing some heart-on-the-sleeve, wonderful Counter-Strike, consistently being the driving force behind Vitality that was backed up by a great team when needed.
I would even go as far as saying iM at the Major for GamerLegion. He played way, way better than anyone could have ever anticipated and, had it not been for him, they probably would have gone 0-3 in the Challengers Stage and never made the Playoffs.
I think ZywOo winning the MVP on his home turf and winning the Major, there's just so much history that I have to go with him, but, it's close between him and iM and had ZywOo not been playing so well, iM would have been the Major MVP."
"NiKo in Cologne. I think that was him recovering from Paris after not making it far there, and he dominated the Grand Final which has always been a criticism of him that he does well up until the point that it really matters and he completely mopped up the IEM Cologne Grand Final. It was amazing."
"It's really difficult to say. It's very subjective so I'll keep it to my own personal thoughts. At IEM Sydney, rain was the MVP, and he's one of those players we all know is a world-class talent but he always surprises us. He's an old boy that keeps delivering time and time again.
The fact they won that tournament in the early stages of CS2 and he showed that an old dog can learn new tricks, I think that's so good. Just the context of his age, the length of his career, he's been around since the first CS:GO Major and he's still delivering ten years later. So for me, with context included, it has to be rain."
"ZywOo in Paris was great, but I don't want to keep saying ZywOo for everything, so I'll go for NiKo in Cologne. Being able to lift that trophy as well as the one in Katowice and be so good while doing it, that was very good from him."
"It's got to be ZywOo at the Paris Major. It's one of the most impressive runs out there"
"I am only looking at the big tournaments and ZywOo 1.39 rating at the Paris Major has to be up there. We can give a notable mention to ropz in CS2 but overall, ZywOo during the Major was just poetic and was the key factor to his team being able to lift the trophy, the last CS:GO Major trophy as well."
"Look, we know that ZywOo was the MVP of the Paris Major so technically he had the best single-tournament performance at a Counter-Strike event in 2023, but where's the fun in that?
At the end of the day, ZywOo also had Spinx and Magisk making huge plays every game, iM just had himself, and he showed the world that he is him."
Our closest award voting yet, ZywOo at Paris manages to take this one over NiKo in Cologne by three votes to two.
Two incredible tournaments from two of the greatest players of all time -added context to ZywOo doing it in the final CS:GO Major in front of his home crowd just managed to take the cake.
