Epic Games and Psyonix made a historic announcement on the final day of the RLCS Paris Major (the largest event in its esports history), confirming Unreal Engine 6 is coming to Rocket League.
This is a major move forward in the lifecycle of Rocket League overall as well as the esport.,
While Psyonix and Epic Games have yet to release any further details, the announcement that the transition from UE3 to UE6 alone is enough to get people talking.

For a couple of years now, the Rocket League Esports community and the Rocket League community as a whole have been waiting with anticipation over the possible jump from Unreal Engine 3 to Unreal Engine 5.
The base game, released in 2016, was built on the third iteration ofUnreal Engine.
It was reported as far back as 2021 that the team was preparing to port to UE5, when some Epic Games and Psyonix employees replied to a Reddit thread discussing the team’s initiatives.
UEFN, a Fortnite-centred offshoot of the base UE5, was the key component behind Fortnite’s creative mode, a feature that prominent community members have been asking for within Rocket League.

The expectation is that Unreal Engine 6, which is expected to be released as early as 2028, would be a combination of the best parts of UE4 and UE5. Additionally, the engine is said to be able to support more servers and ideally make online play much smoother.
The community was understandably enthralled, with lots of different social media reactions highlighting just how big a deal this announcement was.
Reddit had some strong reactions to the announcement, with user B0tPr0 cheekily noting that the sceptics were right about Rocket League never getting UE5.
