Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon Optimized Settings

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is another big victory in the AA gaming space. With AAA games being priced at 70€ on PC as a norm, and with titles like DOOM: The Dark Ages reaching 80€, a 50€ asking price feels like a bargain.

And from what we've seen so far, it is one in this case. A vast dark fantasy open world can be a sight to behold, but how exactly does it perform? Here are our Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon optimized settings.

Miscellaneous Settings

Before we get into the nitty gritty of the video settings tab, we want to highlight first how many quality of life options the game has, and recommend one or two. First of all, if you're playing with Mouse and Keyboard, we highly recommend you turn Walk, Sprint, and Crouch to Toggled actions. Keep your pinky finger some rest.

When it comes to accessibility, you can customize most things to your experience. We'd like to highlight the following:

• Field of View- Slider from 90 to 120º.
• Motion Blur- Toggle and an intensity slider from 0 to 100%.
• Head Bobbing- Toggle On/Off.
• Screen Shake- Toggle On/Off for both Proactive and Reactive effects (when you hit something, or when something hits you).
• FOV Changes- A toggle to allow these changes in the first place ("camera angle changes slightly when you move") and a slider for how noticeable the effect is from 1 to 200%.

So if you're prone to motion sickness or tend to be annoying by any of these effects in first person games, you can turn them all off or customize them to your preference. A welcome addition.

Display And Graphics Settings

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon's display tab is standard. Outside the usual options of resolution and window mode, you get the aforementioned FOV slider and Motion Blur toggle. You can also choose your Target FPS, but it isn't quite clear what this setting does. It doesn't cap your FPS to the number you choose, and it does not seem to be dynamically changing the game's resolution to hit the target, so it might be broken.

When it comes to the graphics tab, here are our optimized settings:

• Dynamic Resolution- DLSS for anyone that supports it, STP (Unity's built-in upscaler) for everyone else that needs it. I don't recommend actually utilizing the upscaling feature unless you truly need the fps. The game suffers from noticeable ghosting even when using DLSS. So keep the Quality to 100% if you can.
• Misc- We're not 100% what this mysterious setting impacts, but we noticed a considerably uptick in FPS by turning it down to Medium, with little to no visual impact.

• View Distance- 75%.
• Texture Quality- High at 8GB or above.
• Mipmaps Bias- 75%. Impacts longer distance objects.
• Vegetation- High.
• VFX Quality- High.
• Fog Quality- Medium.
• SSAO- On.
• Chromatic Aberration- Personal preference.
• Shadows- On. 80% Distance. Contact Shadows On.
• Subsurface Scattering- On. High.

The game was tested on an RTX 3080 and 7800X3D at DLSS 100% Quality. If you're not reaching 60FPS in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon with our optimized settings, we recommend lowering Vegetation Quality, View Distance, Shadow Distance, and Mipmaps Bias. Performance is much higher on dungeons, so test it outside.
