Split Fiction is a 2025 action-adventure game developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts.
As a cooperative multiplayer-only game, you will basically follow Mio Hudson and Zoe Foster after they become imprisoned in the world of their own stories, all because they’re connected to a machine designed to steal creative ideas.
This game has been recently released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. What’s even better is that they are packed with cool secret Easter eggs and references to video games.
Let’s take a look at some of the coolest references in the game.
Split Fiction doesn't forget its roots. If you head to the Isolation Chapter, you will find Leo and Vincent, the main characters from A Way Out. They are trapped in cells, bickering like they always do.

Remember the story of the Three Little Pigs? In Split Fiction, Zoe and Mio turn into pigs with some funny abilities. One can extend like a slinky, and the other can fart to push themselves forward.
You will find this in the Neon Revenge Chapter. There is also a house you can blow over with the farting power, and that leads to the "Huffing and Puffing" achievement.
If you've played It Takes Two, you will spot a cool Easter egg in Split Fiction. In the Neon Revenge Chapter, you can find Cutie the Elephant, a mascot for the Mastodon Pet Store.
This character comes from It Takes Two, where Cutie has a pretty dark moment in the game. It’s a quirky tribute to Hazelight's previous title.
Another video game reference is Dark Souls. Basically, in the Moon Market side story, Zoe and Mio use lanterns from a cat pumpkin's mouth to reveal hidden platforms and cross gaps.
In a clever reference to Assassin’s Creed, Split Fiction allows Zoe to perform a daring jump into a pile of hay, much like the iconic "Leap of Faith" move from the Assassin’s Creed series.
She even says, “Gotta have faith when you leap,” which feels like a nod to Altair, one of the main characters from Assassin’s Creed.
If you’re a Dune fan, you’ll be pleased to spot an homage to the giant Sandworms of Arrakis. In the "Legend of the Sandfish" side story, Zoe and Mio use thumpers to distract massive creatures, much like the Sandworms from Dune.
For those who remember the dramatic Game Awards speech from Hazelight’s director, Josef Fares, Split Fiction gives a nod to this iconic moment.
In the Neon Revenge Chapter, you can find a radio playing his fiery speech, where he called out the Oscars and talked about how games deserve more recognition.
