Nearly 8 years after the original release, Nintendo Switch 2 has finally been announced. The Japanese giant unveiled the console that everyone knew was coming, in a shadow-dropped 2:22min trailer on Youtube.
The successor to the 2017 Nintendo Switch, following a V2 update, a Lite version, and an OLED upgrade, comes with a few visual changes, and is hopefully hiding much better hardware underneath its now black shell.
After months and months of rumor, it's become difficult to parse what is actually true, or at least officially confirmed. Here's what we know for sure about the Nintendo Switch 2:
This shadow-dropped trailer confirmed the existence of the console, its look, but not much else. We're left with a lot of questions, that will surely be answered in Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct coming April 2nd, 2025.
What exactly will Nintendo Switch 2 cost? The original Switch came out in 2017 for 300$, followed 4 years later by the Switch OLED priced at 350$.
400$ is a safe bet, but there are no confirmed values so far.
Although 2025 has been confirmed as the release year, we have no further information on a specific date. With the direct schedule for April, we'll likely either see a Summer or Winter release.
Nintendo has a tendency to release things out of the blue, though, so we wouldn't discard the console coming out soon after the Direct airs.
A bigger console is fine and all, but what exactly is new about Nintendo Switch 2? The rumors have been seemingly endless, but nothing is known yet.
An upscaling solution, or perhaps DLSS itself, is expected, and we'd love to see a lot more internal storage, especially with consoles like the Steam Deck boasting 512GB versions.
Nintendo Switch's original Launch Titles were laughable, to say the least. The console was seemingly carried by Wii U re-releases, most notably Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8, and those remain frequently bundled with the console, including its OLED version, to this day.
The trailer essentially confirmed that a new Mario Kart will come out alongside Nintendo Switch 2, but we would really like at least a couple more strong titles to accompany this release.
We'll keep you updated on new information regarding Nintendo's upcoming console.
