Escape From Tarkov reached Steam and its simultaneous 1.0 release at the tail end of 2025, but that wasn’t the end of its development. Battlestate Games has diversified its efforts to multiple projects, but it’s still updating their main title.
Compiling information from the TarkovTV that took place in the beginning of May, we’ve arrived at an extensive 2026 roadmap for Escape From Tarkov. Here is what you can expect in the coming months.
Escape From Tarkov updates have been few and far between since 1.0, but for good reason. BSG has been focusing on optimization, especially focus on the game’s poor matchmaking systems that ended up leading to players wasting multiple minutes entering and leaving raids. It isn’t perfect, but it has gotten much better.
BSG described the upcoming updates as a sort of road to “Tarkov 2.0”, so this will be, by far, the biggest update coming to the game since the 1.0 release. Credit goes to youtuber Airwingmarine for comprehensive breakdown of the TarkovTV show.
BSG announced that Unheard Edition, the game’s most expensive version, will be available to purchase on Steam. This comes alongside new bonuses exclusive to this edition:
The good news is, all party members who play with someone with Unheard edition will benefit from this buff. There already is a Steam page for the edition, but it isn’t yet available to purchase.
Prestige 1 to 4 is much easier to reach now. When it was added, Prestige levels required you to reach level 55 and unlocking Kappa, one of the toughest achievements in the game and one which required you to spend hundreds of hours per Prestige level. This level to a very small minority of players actually engaging with the system.
BSG wants to open the system to a larger part of the game’s playerbase in the earlier stages, while keeping the highest levels extremely tough to reach. Prestige 1 through 4 are now reachable for a lot of the player base, requiring lower level (level 40 for Prestige 4) and much lower skill levels (level 15 Endurance and Strength for Prestige 4).
You can check all requirements and their respective rewards on the official wiki. Prestige still persists through wipes.

The first season of Escape From Tarkov post 1.0 is coming sometime in July. Season 1, called Kord Breach, will be a new mode added to the game. You’ll be able to choose between PVE, PVP, or PVP Season mode. The season mode will work similar to pre 1.0 wipes, resetting your character every few months.
These season will bring negative and positive modifiers that you’ll be able to select for your character, new battlepasses, new tasks, and much more. It will function similarly to a game like Path of Exile. You can have your permanent character in the PVP server, and the Seasonal one will be wiped every time a new season comes around.
A new location will be added to Escape From Tarkov sometime in the latter half of 2026. Rumors point to it being another single player-only map, similar to what is planned for Ice Breaker, but there is no confirmation yet.
BSG is apparently working on a single player version of Escape From Tarkov planned to release on PC, consoles, and mobile platforms. They’re also working on a free, standalone game apparently called Guncyclopedia that will allow you to build and customize weapons using Tarkov’s systems.

Before the end of the year, Escape From Tarkov is finally getting a system that allows you to revive and heal knocked teammates. There are no details about this yet, but there will be some conditions in which, instead of instantly dying, you will be knocked down.
Additionally, BSG will also change how scavs work. Instead of always having their guns up ready to shoot you, scavs will sometimes be doing random activities, perhaps helping you get the drop on them.
Lastly, there will apparently be containers with entire pre-built kits inside, similarly to what Marathon does. According to youtubers like Airwingmarine, these will likely be boxes purchasable from Traders that will have decent kits (armor, headset, helmet, rig, weapon, etc) to get you into raid quicker.
