If you have spent some time building your camp in Crimson Desert, you already know that Comrades are not just background characters.
From my own playthrough, I noticed pretty quickly that if your camp is weak, your Comrades stay weak too.

Comrades do not level up through combat or by sending them on missions alone. Their level is directly tied to your Camp level. That means if your Camp improves, your Comrades automatically grow stronger and unlock more skills.
At first, I tried focusing on dispatch missions, thinking they would gain experience, but nothing changed until I started upgrading the Camp itself.

You will first get access to Comrades after unlocking Howling Hills Camp in Chapter 3. Once that opens up, you can start recruiting them through specific quests. The main place to look is Journal, then Faction Quests, then Greymanes, and finally Grounds of the Sunrise.
The quests that begin with A rumor are the ones that bring new Comrades into your camp. You can also pick these up by talking to Marius near your tent.
If you want stronger Comrades, your main job is to improve the Camp. This is what worked best for me. Focus on building structures like farms and ranches as early as possible. These directly increase your Camp level.
The more you expand, the more your Comrades benefit from it. You will notice new abilities unlocking for them without needing to manage each one individually.

Not all quests help your Camp grow, so you need to be selective. The easiest way to identify useful ones is by looking for the tent icon.
These missions are designed to improve your Camp. Most of them are also under Grounds of the Sunrise, so keep checking that section regularly.
While leveling is tied to the Camp, each Comrade still has a role. Some stay in the Camp and handle tasks.
For example, Carl manages provisions, while Ross looks after Comrades. Others can be sent out as Freeswords on dispatch missions.
These missions are useful for gathering resources, but they are not the main way to level them up. Think of them as support rather than progression.
