In Avowed, you will come across the Steel Resolve side quest where Ranger Acierno and Ranger Massoni will ask for your help.
Basically, two of their senior rangers have gone missing for days, and they will task you to find out what has happened to them.
However, you should also know that this quest falls under the side quest category, so it is not part of the main storyline. But if you’re into solving mysteries and lending a hand to the Rangers, this one’s for you.
To help you complete this, here’s a comprehensive guide on how you can complete the Steel Resolve quest in Avowed.
Steel Resolve Quest walkthrough in Avowed
Step 1: Freeing Verado
Image via Obsidian EntertainmentFirst things first, the quest kicks off when you find Verado locked up in a cage. You will basically have a few ways to break him free. Here are the ways:
- Use an ice spell if you are into that sort of magic.
- Toss an Eye of Rymrgand fruit grenade his way.
- Or, if you're into the whole “weapon” thing, use an ice weapon to smash that cage.
Step 2: Head to the Grom Wetlands
Once you have freed Verado, it is time to head through the doorway in the Grom Wetlands. Just follow the path, and you will run into a few more challenges and decisions along the way.
Step 3: Meeting Ranger Dorso

Step 4: Deciding Dorso’s fate
This is where it gets a bit tricky. You have got some choices to make about what to do with Dorso. Each choice changes how things unfold:
- Help Dorso: If you are down with helping her, you will be prepping Fior for the Aedyran forces.
- Let Her Go: If you think exile’s the answer, you can send Dorso off, but heads up—this means a hit squad will be sent after her later.
- Attack Her: You can just go the aggressive route and attack her.
Step 5: Report back to Ranger Acierno
After you make your move with Dorso, it’s time to report back to Ranger Acierno. This is where you will face more decisions that affect how the quest ends.
Step 6: Wrapping it up

- Tell the truth about Dorso: The Rangers won’t be happy about one of their own betraying them, but if you have protected Dorso, the Envoy will lie about her whereabouts.
- If you let her go, the truth comes out, and they’ll send that hit squad after her. Reward: 3,926 XP and “One Last Trick.”
- Tell the truth and agree with Dorso’s motives: This makes the Rangers uneasy with you. You won’t get any items, but you will still score some XP.
- Lie and frame Casagrada: If you’d rather play the sneaky route, frame Casagrada for the whole thing. Acierno will thank you for your effort, and you’ll get 3,926 XP and “One Last Trick” (+1).
- Lie and claim there was no suspect: You can say there’s no suspect, but the Rangers won’t buy it. Then, you can choose to:
- Blame the Dreamscourge: Acierno will buy this excuse. Reward: 3,926 XP and “One Last Trick.”
- Blame the Ogre: If you’re still not convincing, you’ve got to choose between telling the truth or framing Casagrada.
