Avowed showers its players with loot around every corner. As long as you are looking carefully wherever you go, you will be bumping into chests and backpacks filled with treasures: Weapons and armor.
Despite this, unlike the game that it is constantly compared with, Skyrim, Avowed will not have you constantly swapping weapons and armor for something slightly better.
Instead, Obsidian gave us a tiered upgrade system that keeps the equipment that we found early on relevant for a much longer time. So, how exactly can you upgrade your weapons and armor in Avowed?
Adra WaystoneTo upgrade weapons and armor in Avowed, you need to find a party camp. They're the ones with the big Adra Waystones, and the first one you'll find is Ivona's Threshold, right after you reach Dawnshore.
Once inside the party camp, you'll need to find your workbench and interact with it, which will bring up the menu shown below.
From here, you can upgrade all weapons and armor that you are currently carrying.
UpgradingDoing so will always cost Paradisan Ladder and one other component. This will depend on which weapon or armor you are upgrading in Avowed..
Basic Materials and what they upgrade:
On top of these components, upgrades can also cost gold (Copper Skeyt), scaling with how high the upgrade tier is.
Where Avowed follows the Skyrim blueprint more closely is in the Unique equipment. These weapons and armor have special effects and their specific upgrading component in Adra.
Additionally, besides being upgradeable, Uniques can be enchanted.
Below we show an example using a sword called Last Light of Day. It comes with a Unique effect called "Dawn's Remembrance", which gives 10% bonus fire damage to hits.
EnchantingThe Last Light of Day allows you to choose one of two enchantments:
These enchantments cost quite a few rarer materials, and some gold. You only have to do this once, though, and you're stuck with your decision for the remainder of your Avowed playthrough.
