Although it only came out in Early Access at the beginning of April, Road To Vostok already has an extensive modding community. This is highly due to the fact that people had been modding RTV even while it was just a demo.
As the game exploded in popularity with the EA release, so did the mod scene. At the time of writing, there are over 400 mods for the game and dozens of them have thousands of downloads. Here are the 10 best Road To Vostok mods and how to install them.
Thanks to the official RTV subreddit for helping out with recommendations.
Before we get into the actual list, let’s first go over how one installs mods in Road To Vostok. For now, the best resource for mods is modworkshop. it features hundreds of mods and great sorting options. It lets you know if a mod is outdated and AI-generated, if you want to avoid those.
To get started you first need to install Metro Mod Loader, which is how you’ll have control over your mods, their priorities, etc. It also automatically scans mods for Malware. Follow the instructions in the page, which we’ll copy and paste below:
modloader.gd and override.cfg.Manage > Browse local files.override.cfg and modloader.gd into the game folder.mods folder inside the game folder if one does not already exist.Once you have this set up, download Mod Configuration Menu which will allow you to customize mods that let you change parameters. Simply place the downloadable file into your newly-created mods folder and you will have access to this in Vostok’s main menu.
After these first two steps, you are ready to install as many mods as you want. Here are the ones we recommend.

Starting with the simpler and more obvious ones, we have No More Permadeath. This mod makes it so the Vostok areas, which currently are Apartments and Terminal, work exactly like all others.
If you die they, you still lose everything you have on you at the time, but you respawn in your shelter. Your save file isn’t deleted and you don’t lose any of your progress.

While there currently isn’t any benefit to keeping the Cat alive in Road To Vostok, it is a bummer to see its health counter slowly go down until it dies of starvation. If you want some peace of mind, just install Immortal Cat and just feed your feline friend when you get back from your trips!

How much time have you spent squinting while playing Road To Vostok? If you want to avoid headaches and expression lines, just install Focus Eye. This mod allows you to zoom-in to better see enemies in the distance.
If you installed MCM, you can customize everything: ADS zoom, FOV scale while sprinting, etc. An excellent quality of life addition to the game.
Some of the events that you unlock as you progress through Road To Vostok are incredibly hard to bump into. For one, a lot of players go dozens of hours without ever seeing the Punisher boss.

The Event Hints mod warns you if there is an active event when you enter an area, as shown above, and it allows you to customize event spawn chances to your liking.
This one is for the gun and immersion enthusiasts out there. You might’ve noticed that most guns and attachments have slightly changed names to their real-life counterparts.
The simple Real Gun & Attachment Names mod fixes that by giving you the real names for everything.

In its vanilla version, Road To Vostok backpacks only affect your carry-weight. While that is all fine and dandy, you’re more likely to run out of actual inventory slots than carry weight.
Backpack Inventory Space adds bonus inventory rows to backpacks that already gave you extra carrying capacity. You can customize these bonus rows via MCM.

Have you gotten bored of killing enemies that rarely drop loot beyond the gun they’re carrying? What about opening empty containers? Then this mod will be right up your alley.
The XP & Skills System gives you an entire system of skills to level up and awards you XP for actions like: searching containers, killing enemies, trading, etc. Check the mod page for all skills and their respective values.

While the base barter-only system in Road To Vostok is cool and immersive, it has quite a few downsides. You’ll sometimes barter for items you don’t need just to have more space, or you’re incentivized to stockpile items in your shelter just to sell them later.
This mod fixes that issue without trivializing the game’s econmy. Wallet & Cash lets you sell items to traders for cash, but only at 80% of the value you would get in a barter trade. It also allows you to find Euros as a new lootable item.

Why do these lawless bandits only attack you and no one else? There’s no good reason for this, so Faction Warfare + More Enemies comes to fix that problem.
This mod allows enemy NPCs to fight each other and raises the amount of enemies alive in each area. Again, you can customize all of this via MCM.

Lastly, but certainly not leastly, we have a modpack, courtesy of modder Oldman. This overhaul includes a bunch of changes:
This is an extensive alteration to the game, but one that is damn worth it. Most changes are focused on QOL and on improving enemy AI, probably the weakest part of Road To Vostok. There are other mod packs out there, but there is a good reason why Oldman’s Immersive Overhaul is, by far, the most downloaded one.
