Upsets galore as competition at The International 2024 (TI13) playoffs gets heated. Team Liquid, Tundra Esports, C9 and Gaimin Gladiators secure a guaranteed top 6 finish at the main event while Xtreme Gaming, Team Falcons, Aurora and Nouns drop to the lower bracket.
Here’s the list of the first 4 Dota 2 teams who have qualified for The International 2024 (TI13) Playoffs main event:
Team Liquid defeated Xtreme Gaming in a highly-anticipated encounter with the WEU team conquering their demons and sending the Chinese team to the lower bracket. Liquid dominated XG in an effortless series win, leaving the latter in agony. The second game was a psychological disaster for XG as they got punished for their slow-paced draft with the game ending in 19 minutes.
Cloud9’s victory against Aurora was a masterclass drafting from the WEU squad and its coach who completely out-drafted the Southeast Asian team. The series seemed more like a battle between the two coaches than the team itself and Astini emerged stronger along with his boys and punished Aurora with their high-tempo game.
The encounter between Tundra Esports and Team Falcons was as intense as possible. Falcons, one of the tournament favourites, were unable to overcome the might of Tundra as the latter performed out of their minds. The first game was an easy victory for Tundra, however, the second game was an absolute nail-biter with constant back-and-forth exchanges between both teams.
Falcons had a better grip on the game and rushed mid to destroy the throne after a crucial team fight. However, a clutch buyback from Pure’s Luna turned around Tundra’s fortune and secured them a crucial kill on the enemy cores who were left without a buyback. Tundra went on to secure the Aegis and ended the game swiftly thereafter, thus shocking the tournament favourites and sending them to the lower bracket.
Nouns had an excellent first game against one of the favourite teams, Gaimin Gladiators, pegged to win The International 2024 (TI13). The North American stalwarts won the first game in 35 minutes with their cores going rampant on the Western European giants. However, Gaimin quickly recouped in the second game and defeated Nouns to level the series with their classic aggressive gameplay. The third game was no different as Gaimin outdrafted Nouns yet again and classically dominated the underdogs to close the series.
The next set of upper bracket matches will be directly played on 13th September 2024 at the Royal Arena, Copenhagen, as the victorious teams enjoy a well-deserved short break and have the opportunity to properly analyze their potential opponents.
The first elimination games of TI13 kick off tomorrow, determining the fate of the initial teams to be eliminated. The second day of the playoffs will begin Talon Esports vs BetBoom Team followed by 1w Team vs Team Zero.
Hearts will be broken as dejection will start setting in as the elimination begins. Which team will march ahead and which team will bid adieu to the event?
