Giants survive, Underdogs perish
The lower bracket of The International 2024 (TI13) Playoffs is underway and it has already found its first set of victims. Four teams bid farewell to the crown jewel Dota 2 esports event after failing to defeat their opponents.
- Talon Esports vs BetBoom Team: Talon and BBT engaged in a thrilling best-of-three affair showcasing the regional prowess in terms of gameplay. BBT was the better team throughout the series, despite their hiccups in the second game where they threw away a 28k gold lead with Talon mounting an excellent comeback on the back of Akashi’s Morphling. However, BBT put its faith in GPK’s Storm Spirit, completely shut down Talon and ended the Southeast Asian’s journey at TI13.
- 1w Team vs Team Zero: The battle between the two underdogs was a one-sided affair as 1wT dominated Team Zero in a clean sweep. Team Zero fell short of expectations as they were clueless against 1wT’s rampant play style and couldn’t get a good grasp on the game. Zero is the first Chinese team to be eliminated from TI13.
- Nouns vs BetBoom Team: Following its victory against Talon, BetBoom faced Nouns in its second elimination series. Nouns, who upset Team Spirit in the upper bracket previously, found itself in the jaws of the lower bracket after losing to Gaimin Gladiators in the upper bracket. However, Nouns couldn’t replicate the same level of gameplay against BBT and ended North America’s dream of another TI title with a dismal 0:2 loss.
- Team Falcons vs 1w Team: One of the tournament favourites, Team Falcons, found itself in the lower bracket after a heartbreaking defeat against Tundra Esports in the upper bracket. They faced 1wT after the Eastern European Dota 2 team defeated Team Zero in its previous series. However, it was an easy flight for the Falcons as they decimated 1wT in two quick games which lasted for an average of 30 minutes. Watch here
