It's been more than a week since Valve introduced Patch 7.37 in Dota 2. The patch brought some inevitable changes to the game.
In this new patch, what was once viable in the previous meta won’t work anymore - or will it?
While some heroes got significant updates in Patch 7.37, some got reworked, and some remained untouched. The good news is now you can rest assured knowing you will be safe from getting one-tossed by Tiny and wondering about your life choices.
However, there’s one more hero you should fear more in this patch than Tiny in the previous patch. Here’s a hint: Don’t look straight into her eyes.
Patch 7.37 in Dota 2 introduced a significant shift in the meta.
Thus, in this article, let's take a look at which heroes have the potential to be the top-tier pick in this new Dota 7.37 patch.
In this patch 7.37, Medusa received a rework. It makes her a viable option as a safelaner. Her new facet, Venomous Volley, allows her to slow the opponents. This facet also stacks well with the Eye of Skadi. So as the game progresses, it will become less impossible for her opponents to kite her in the skirmishes.
Remember the days when Medusa couldn’t cancel tps and challenging spells unless she used her ulti? Well, in this new patch, the hero now has a catch ability, Gorgon's Grasp. The ability not only allows her to cancel tps and channelling spells, but during the root duration, the opponents cannot turn. This makes her a whole new, different hero.
With these new improvements, Medusa can now farm more efficiently. She can also show up to early skirmishes to enable her team more if they’re winning. Overall, these new changes have made Medusa a force to be feared during all stages of the game, unlike her old variant. Currently, Medusa's pick rate has increased by 5%, and she now has a 52.33% win rate.
Another hero that we can see more of in this patch is Chaos Knight. The hero has been slowly climbing his way back into the meta, and in Patch 7.37, he has got another buff. Now, both of his facets are viable choices. On one hand, Phantasmagoria allows him to create strong illusions.
On the other, if players opt for the Irrationality facet, it gives the hero a 50% chance to Break, Disarm or Silence the opponents. This could make or break the game since the beginning of the laning stage.
Imagine your laning opponent silencing you with an armor reduction. It would make the lane unplayable. You’re silenced, and during this duration, you will also get stunned and will not have armor to defend yourself. Death becomes an inevitable truth in this scenario.
Moreover, it gives CK's team more snowballing power, as the hero already has early power spikes. The hero's pick rate plummeted after the new patch dropped, but his win rate is now above 50%. We are not giving any hints, but this hero could be a hidden gem in this patch.
For the mid-laners, Ember Spirit has the potential to be the strongest hero in this patch. The hero might seem to have been nerfed on the surface, but in reality, it's the opposite. His new facet, Immolation, needs a nerf ASAP.
Many players love playing Ember because the hero offers many advantages that midlaners love. Now, with Immolation, the hero is in a completely different tier.
Immolation’s DPS is nearly the same as Radiance at its maximum potential. During the laning stage, this ability allows Ember to secure the last hit effortlessly and harass his opponents efficiently due to its damage. It also scales into the late game, giving him more lane-shoving prowess.
Additionally, his Flame Guard got buffed. Now, it has a better magic damage barrier, and its DPS and duration have been rescaled. To put it simply, Ember Spirit now has a much stronger laning stage. As a result, it makes his team easier to snowball. Thus, it’s not surprising to see that Ember's win rate has skyrocketed to a whopping 53.23% this week.
Another hero that might be returning to the mid-lane in this patch could be Lina. It's been a while since we've seen this hero burn through her opponents in pubs and on the professional scene.
Back in the golden days, which was last year she used to tear down every match she was in. Despite being a glass-cannon hero, she’s hard to shut down and she burns through everyone in the way for an effortless victory for her team.
Now, it seems these broken Lina days could be around the corner. Patch 7.37 returns the spark to her as it bends a lot in her favour. Moreover, nowadays, Lina could be a more dangerous threat than she used as she can also be played as a magical damage hero. Back then, Lina was played mainly as a physical damage hero.
Lina's new innate ability, Combustion, scales with her ultimate ability, Laguna Blade. Moreover, her passive, Fiery Soul, has also been rescaled for the better.
In this 7.37 Dota meta, Lina deals more damage, can flash farm more efficiently and can be played as a magical, physical or hybrid damage hero. Additionally, in the right hands, Lina is a menace. The hero can easily secure objectives with her attack speed and damage. Moreover, she can easily win skirmishes for her team, if she’s not addressed swiftly.
The only drawback this hero has is that she's a glass-cannon hero, which means she can be easily burst down. However, it would take some time for the players to figure out this hero. Currently, Lina's win rate has increased to 49.46%.
On the note of mid-laners, be prepared to see a lot of "Gass Gasss" in this patch. Despite various nerfs, Pangolier has always remained a viable midlane hero since his introduction. Thus, Valve decided enough is enough in this new patch.
Though the hero did not receive nerfs, the damage numbers for his ultimate ability were tweaked.
Rolling Thunder now deals lower damage at the first level but more at the max level, which means late-game skirmishes without a Black King Bar against him are costly.
Now, this guy could just Beep Beep- lock down his opponents to death. With a strong laning stage, initiating prowess and the ability to cause havoc during skirmishes, le monsieur pangolin will surely dominate the midlane in the professional scene in Patch 7.37.
In the last meta, aura items played a key part in a team's victory. Additionally, offlane and support heroes are the ones who usually buy these aura items so that their team can sustain in skirmishes. Though this aura strategy has been nerfed, it could still be viable.
While aura-buyer heroes like Enigma and Tidehunter are still viable choices as offlaners, there's another hero that could pose a huge threat from the offlane in this patch – Death Prophet.
This hero has a strong laning stage and can take objectives swiftly with her ultimate. Additionally, with Exorcism, Death Prophet became a nightmare to deal with in skirmishes.
Now, with the hero's new facet, Mourning Ritual could be the most overpowered thing in Dota 2. It allows DP to delay up to 50% of the incoming damage and with Eul's Scepter of Divinity, the hero can dodge all of the incoming damage which is ridiculous.
Not only with her Spirit Siphon DP can just heal herself up during this time. Not only you won’t be able to burst her, but you could also get heavily punished if you go on her without taking any precautions.
DP is a natural aura items buyer. In this patch, her Crypt Swarm and Spirit Siphon also got buffed. Due to her buffs, the hero's win rate surges up to above 50% within a week, whereas her pick rate remains the same.
In the support department, popular ones like Nyx Assasin and Monkey King got nerfed. However, there is a hidden gem in this patch – Tinker. Yeah, I know this is crazy and a lot of you are going to hate me for this.
However, please hear me out for the sake of your MMR. I also dislike this hero. He’s an annoying midlaner but after getting nerfed to the ground in the recent patches, Tinker might be a good support hero.
One of the facets of this hero, Repair Bots at max level now heals 45. This means during late-game skirmishes with Holy Locket on Tinker, his team is nearly unkillable. Plus with Laser and Defence Matix, he can make high ground seize much easier. Tinker's win rate soared to around 50% within this week.
On the flip side, some meta-heroes from the last patch got nerfed. Remember Tiny tossing a creep onto his opponent's supports for insta-kill? Well, it likely will not happen in this patch.
The hero's overpowered Crash Landing facet got nerfed – its damage numbers and radius got decreased. However, this doesn't mean killing support with Toss isn’t possible – it just requires more finesse.
Shadow Fiend is the other midlaner that got hit with nerfs. Though the nerfs may seem insufficient, they could have dire effects on the hero's win rate. SF's unique ability to collect souls, Necromastery, got reworked.
On top of that, Shadowraze, which makes the hero a dominant force in the lane stage, got nerfed, and his ultimate ability is not as strong as it used to be.
His win rate dropped to less than 50% since the release of Patch 7.37, and the hero's pick rate is also on the decline.
In this patch, Sven support is also nerfed. The hero's third ability, Warcry, and an additional bonus armour the ability grants now have been reduced.
Additionally, the hero's Aghanim's Shard has also been reworked – it now increases active movement speed and does not passively grant movement speed to allies.
Another big oof for the hero is its level 20 talent, now it only grants an additional 8 Warcry armor and not 10.
There is one thing you should consider though, Valve is quick with letter patches after the number patches to balance out any anomalies.
Currently, the aforementioned heroes are the ones you should consider spamming in this patch to increase your win rate in Dota 2.
